Default AU Dash Cluster

Hey there guys.
New to forum but I reckon it's one of the best from what I have seen.
Here's my prob,
I have recently purchased an AUII futura and would like to swap the dash for an upper model to have access to an oil pressure switch, because as we all know te idiot light just doesn't cut it!.
Should I be lookingat Fairmont or XR6 also what wiring mods need to be done.
I can read wiring schematics and have done full engine bay rewires in the past for mates, but nevr attacked a dash.
If anyone out there can help it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx guys
Troy

You want an XR cluster, if you use a fairmont/lane one you loose you're dte display. You also need to replace the oil pressure switch with an oil pressure sender. As far as wiring goes I'm not to sure about the wiring, I only have details for the series 1.

And series II & III I believe work off the idiot light anyway. The gauge itself is there for show I think. It either sits on 5 out of 7, or 0. Thats it.

I'm sure someone else here can confirm??

As I have already stated, to make it function corectly you need to replace the pressure switch with a sender. They cost around $50 hence why Ford decide to scimp and use the $8 switch.

Try this document and the linked images may help with wiring as well.

you can't just put a sender in and the gague will work this is just a dummy gague I've been right into it with an instrument tech and there is no easy way to make the gague a proper gague in the S2/3 cluster

Yes the gauge is a dodgy one. No it cant be "fixed" by using another cluster etc. By far the easiest way is to just fit an aftermarket one, if you can handle having another gauge somewhere on your dash.
