Default Premium unleaded

I heard of people saying premium is more efficient than standard unleaded.

I filled up with vortex 98 yesterday and found it to be more responsive but it looks to be as if it's going down on the guage faster.

Is it meant to be more economical and if so do you end up making the extra 10 cents back?

More power, more right foot, it's the way it goes.

hmmm so you're saying there's no way I'll be getting my 10 cents back in extra economy?

POWER & ECONOMY normally don"t go in the same sentence unless its turbo diesel.

: Keep your foot from going down so hard on the throttle pedal and economy will come whether your using regular or V-Max.

i think the fact you are trying to see if there is a difference in power. then you say hey its got more response so you start driving it harder then you think you get less distance from a tank.
if you drive it the same as usual then you might gain some distance.

Mate its only 10 cents. If it worrys you use regular. As stated before if you noticed its more responsive it generally means your driving harder. Drive easy and you will save on economy

I use 95 ron in my xr6 all the time. I see a slight increase in power and ecomany. But I only see the Eco on the highway. im lucky to get 400km to a tank around town but i can get 650 to a tank on the highway now with the manual

Higher octane petrol is better for your cars as it helps prevent pinging

Premo on relatively stock cars = over rated

the lower the octane the faster the fuel burns... use the LOWEST octane you can without detonation (pinging).

Correct. Unless your ECU has been retuned to run on premium, then doing so won't have any effect on economy or power. The Falcons have a knock sensor (at least AUs do), which retards timing if the octane rating is too low, but it does nothing for if the octane rating is higher. Only through a flash tune, or equivalent, will you make any difference using PULP in a ULP designated car.

Having said that, a higher octane rating is not the only thing PULP is good for. Most brands these days have all sorts of detergents and additives in their PULP, which does tend to help keep the engine internals from carboning up etc, and takes about 3 to 4 tanks to really clean the system out. But that's about all it's good for.

thats about the jist of it, if u ran a higher octane fuel AND advanced the timing to suit you would see an imediate gain, otherwise cant see you picking any ecconomy at all realy, jurys stil out on weather its better for your motor
