Hey guys.
Im just wondering if anyone has a series 1 AU 5litre Fairmont? Are they any good. There is a very nice one in a car yard near me. Marone....5litre...149,000kms and they want $8,990. Do you think snap it up if its as good as it seems to be? Just a bit sus on buying a series one. Its 1998 model btw. I was very disapointed today when i look at an ex pursuit AU. Got there it was immac had the XR8 motor and Suspension being a tickford model. Spotless inside and out a old guy owned it. 150,000kms and i was rubbing my hands together. Untill he opened the boot...There is a hollow bit near a boot hinges and it was just rruuussssteeedddddddddddd so badly.....Im so spewing was a perfect car apart from that. How ever ive been taking notice of a few series 1 AU 5litres around. Are they worth a look? Cheers Glenn.

i have a series one forte for the mrs and it is rusting in the same place. If i was you i would spend a little extra and get a seires 2 or 3 if you can find one. thats my opinion anyway. You should be able to pick up a series 2 fairmont for around 12,000 with low k's i would have thought but dont hold me to that.

Buy the AU1 - doesn't take much to upgrade the brakes to AU2 spec these days, and a V8 is always going to be fine with that many kms on it.

Yes indeed ThoR_, I am very lucky I don't know you in person. I can picture us just now trying to be buddies & hanging out. <Ghia5L> So ThoR_, the weekend is coming up. I've got inexpensive prositutes, explosives, and a liquor distillery at my disposal on my bigass property, or we could make the most of my bus ticket (it runs out after Sunday) and sit on the bus all weekend going to the shops & back, window shopping with the pensioners. Whaddyawannado? <ThoR_> Gee, it's a pretty tough choice there bloke. Let's flip a coin on it. Heads is the former option, tails is the latter. (ThoR_ flips coin) <ThoR_> Heads. Hmm. Best of 3? Just to be sure? (ThoR_ flips coin) <ThoR_> Heads. Hmm. Best of 5? Just to be sure? <Ghia5L> Hmm yes, we are in quite a pickle here. All we need is some kind of sign to help us decide. (TV in background mysteriously turns on by itself, an emergency news bulletin is broadcast) <TV> Terrorists have blown up the entire local bus depot. Police believe the suspects had access to explosives and were intoxicated at the time. In other news there seems to be a chronic shortage of prostitutes in the CBD... (ThoR_ continues to flip the coin) Well after two years, the "HAY GUISE LOL, I'M LOOKN AT A (XF, Daewoo Leganza, Hyundai S-Coupe) THIS WEEK ROFL" threads get tiring. Want some positive input from me? Here you go: AU1 V8s have good heads & a good intake manifold, but have a crappy cam, which is why they're rated the same in peak power as the EL2XR8 which has inferior heads (but a better cam). They go good on gas, and Windsors are only just hitting their stride at the 300,000km mark. AUs are generally very reliable and well built, moreso than their E-Series predecessors. |
