just wondering if any one had tried fitting traction control to an au2 xr6, my young brother borowed my car today and mentioned it when he returned the car (hopefully he was`nt bagging them up). anyway i thought it would be nice for wet roads , any fairlane guys any comments on traction control ,good or bad, my bro is a computer tech he seems to think just by changing the abs module and connecting to a single wire under the dash it should be a goer and running a cutoff switch to the console would be fairly easy,
any feed back appreciated. |

I dont know if its that simple.
I thought traction control killed the injectors if wheelspin was detected, so I dont know where the ABS system comes into it. traction control wont help you accelerate any faster by preventing wheelspin, but there are other benefits to it

its crap.
i hate it. when the car detects wheelspin, it cuts fuel supply. so think of it this way, your car starts to slide on a wet road, so normally youd keep on the gas and control it. TC cuts the fuel, often leaving you in a hairy situation/position. i always turn if off in the wet.

Typical rear wheel drive mentality. Rain = dorifto. What a hero. And before you bag me for driving a front wheel drive (that happens to have both traction control and stability control), I regularly drive rear wheel drive turbos in the wet with TC and I can assure you that it's not a bad thing. No point trying to be a hero and turning it off, one day you'll go too far and the consequences will be something altogether different.

the main reason for looking into this was, last week while turning right onto a busy road in the wet with a constant barrage of traffic, it was difficult to get away off the mark without sitting on the spot spinning wheels taking needless time in middle of the road even with gentle throttle control getting no where, another thought came to mind, traveling on highway wet night on cruise control 100kph hit a slippery spot and suddenly stepping sideways with no warning, ...... i had this happen to me, ok thanks guys for replies, i will look further at whats involved in adding this feature, more plusses than minuses i think .
cheers mik |

Chances are it's not going to be cheap unless you can find a wrecked AU with the feature fitted.

Most of the time you don't notice it's there and when you do notice it, you're glad of it

the traction control is in the ABS unit and wires back to the ECU there is an input to the ECU for this but it's not a simple matter of bung in the ABS unit and one wire I look into it and although it is doable it is involved and if you have LPG you have to put a relay in to disable it whent it is on gas as it is not compatible with LPG systems even factory

The Traction Control is crap and doesn't work by the time it kicks in you are already sideways it only really works if it's wet at an intersection and your going dead straight and even then I hate the clunk it makes as it slams on the brakes on for me it cant be doing any good.
The BA/BF traction control seems to work better but then again I really dont like the level of big brother they seem to have. |

The AU traction control needs the 4 chanel ABS from the upper auto models, manuals & lower spec models got 3 chanel.

: ? theres only one reason you dont like traction control, and that is you want to be a hero at evey green light and spin that open diff of yours : it does not kick in once you have got sideways, that only happens when your rear wheels loose traction. traction control AKA "Traction Control" is just that. it controls the slipping due to the loss of traction. and no it is not harmfull to your car, other wise they wouldnt make it to start with,(90% of car makes now, have traction control) what it acually does is 2 things. 1:cuts power to the spinning wheel and transfers it to the other and 2:brakes the spinning wheel(this is where the ABS comes in(stops the wheel its braking from locking up)). it also works the best when your car is warm(so on a cold start up it may seem ****) do a test, try taking off full throttle in the wet with it turned off (you will just sit there and spin one wheel, gradually start moving) turn it on and you will acellerate like normall, with no wheelspin... :togo: And like other people have said, one day your going to wish you had it turned on :
