Power source (cig lighter) doesn't turn off

Guys,

I have a portable GPS unit that runs off the power source formerly known as a cigerette lighter.

My problem is that even after the car is turned off, the power source remains on, hence my GPS remains on and in the extreme case would eventually drain my battery flat.

My previous car used to turn the GPS off automatically when the car was turned off and the cig lighter power source went off.

Its a pain to insert and remove the power plug every time I get in and out of the car.

Can this be changed by the dealer?

Any else been through this?

My sig lighter stays on as well, i have my phone charger plugged in... i just leave the plug in, but just seperate the charger from the phone, mainly cause i take it with me, but yer...

it doesnt drain my battery at all.

Yeah its a "feature" of the car. A bit annoying for me, I've thought of rewiring the socket to run off ACC but haven't had the chance

I actually like the feature. It used to bother me at first but I make use of it for my iPod and Navman when their batteries are nearly flat. I can leave them in the car charging instead of unplugging them and taking into the house to recharge. I can't remember but does it charge continuously or just stay on for an hour after leaving the car?

Apart from draining the battery, what other damage can be caused?
