Default Jetta vs Australia

Hey,

I recently bought a new diesel Jetta and must say it’s impressive. Over the past 2 years had an Turbo MKII ute and loved it…but its here I see a massive gap in what is and what should be. I could only hope Orion cuts the mustard.
It’s the little things:
-Windows wipers that not only are auto sensing but actually clean the windshield with every swipe of the blade (I know its new but the wipers on all aussie cars are crap from day one)
- Super tight panel fits
- Bi-Xeon Headlights (Wow there nice)
- Auto Dim Revision Mirror
- Great seats
- Tyre pressure sensors
- Nice illumination of dash, buttons and surrounds
- Slick manual transmission (By this I mean the cluckamatic Falcon 6 speed - fix it please)
- MP3
- Wind Noise. And lack of.
- Here is where I could and will stop sooking...but theres more and more.

All this really hit home again while driving a mates VZII SS ute for two days this week. We all know this forum has copped a barrel full of complainers but for a 33k purchase you cannot beat it.
Whether it’s the fact Euro’s build more cars making the balance sheet more justifiable, Ford OZ have allot more work to do in all areas to be truly competitive with a quality all round product. I just want to be like Borrat and one day buy something with a tight “virgin”.

In the words of Chopper “Harden the ***** up” Ford. out:

Ure Jetta, will have rear fog, triangle.

But, does it have first aid kit and a vest yet for this market?

I just hope your VW dealer after sales service is better than the one I bought my wifes Polo from. The local Ford service leaves this particular VW dealer for dead. Sometimes I wish I looked further at the Fiesta.

Also the wipers on my Ghia work really well with the Bosch wiper blades I put in.

How does the Jetta compare to a Falcon for interior space?

I haven't seen one up close. They look like a much smaller car.

VW dealer told me the Jetta was basically a Golf in a sedan shape. i think its an accurate description. Pity I couldnt afford a Golf or Jetta. I would have bought one in a heartbeat.

The down side is the serviceing/repair costs. Drive it hard and you will be lucky to get 60,000km out of a full set of brakes, that is front and rear pads and rotors. Plus those brillant wiper blades can be fun to find replacements for, I belive there is a trick around this. http://http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeroforum?id=137 for some fairly good info. Be prepared for some "interesting" comments, some of the guys are crazy.

god no, not 60000km. i could only manage 20000km out of a set of AU pads and rotors. i guess VW have poorer quality than Ford do then?

Hehe ... Sorry I can't but help think about "Hitler's Revenge". Hehe.

Service costs for VWs are... 'interesting'. Honda's service costs are also 'interesting'.

I agree with what you are saying about the quality differences between german/volkswagen and aussie cars. After sitting in my mum's E240 or dad's S320, my BA feels comparatively unrefined. Mercedes service costs are extremely interesting, but they treat you well. The M-Class loan car (free of charge of course) wasn't too bad .

Not pretty much, Jetta is a Golf sedan. Identical chassis, brakes, suspension, engines, interior, equipment levels etc etc.

Hopefully they re-make the Sirocco (Golf/Jetta Coupe) which these was a concept of... mmmm.

Incorrect. The Jetta Has more Luxury Features Standard.

Dual Zone Climate Control
Reversing Sensors

And its late, i cant think of the rest
:
I was Oh so close to buying one! Had signed the paper work and all...they botched up the paper work though :(
Having said that... it would have made for a nice touring car.
I'm glad I got the Zetec in that respect.

Yeah it did come with First Aid kit and all the other safety stuff mentioned (standard)

Don’t know about the VW Service yet, other people that I know have been happy with the dealer in Wollongong...I can only hope I agree when tired.

Yes it is an expensive rig to service, but having it under a novated lease (35000 km per year driven) arrangement should see typical maintenance kept to a "reasonable price". They have budgeted about $160 per month over four years, but that tends to be overstated. Just need to make sure they don’t fleece me on unrequired stuff.

Paid just under 33k all up under lease (ex GST). That included Bi-Xeon and alarm. Good price I thought.

It does have a few more jewels over Golf as mentioned plus the boot is massive!
As for leg space and cabin, put it this way….if a 6`2 walrus can sit in it like Michael Jackson’s glove up a child, then most other people shouldn’t have a problem.

Great comfort at a bargain price. Now just waiting to see what the Orion delivers.

Yep, correct.

Falcon BFII Luggage Capacity (Seat Up): 504 litres

Jetta MkV Luggage Capacity (Seat Up): 527 litres

They do have some minor differences like that. The Golf has a better stereo for example, and 10 speakers to the Jetta's 8. It also has its aerial mounted in the glass, whereas the Jetta has a normal aerial. Golf has front passenger's seat lumbar adjustment, Jetta doesn't. Jetta has remote boot release, Golf doesn't. Little things like this differ between them, but they remain the exact same car.
