IMO the Ranger looks better than the Hi-lux and Rodeo, Navara is all right thou don’t like the front and they rely dropped the ball on the new Triton.

The Diesel in the Ranger Looked very good until Toyota and Nissan released there new one and now it just looks average, and where the hell is the petrol Option 4.0LTr V6 SOHC Hello.

I was considering getting a duel cab 4WD Ranger but the total lack of information about them On the Ford Website and in general put me off and I was sick of waiting to hear something and gave up, so I looked at the XR6 Turbo instead and will just hang onto the current 4by.

Buy the sounds of it the ranger is just going to be another rebadged Bravo anyway like the Courier was which is a bit of a let down, I though they would have done something a little different with it.

The saying goes something like this... There's lies, damn lies and statistics... In the new car world Down Under, there's VFACTS. Not lies, but statistics -- a blow by blow, monthly description of the fortunes of the 44 car and 15 heavy truck brands that report via the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) new vehicle sales system.

Indeed, nothing gets the 59 sets of backroom boys and girls crunching numbers or the PR flunkies buzzing like the chance to review 12 months' worth of new vehicle sales stats and put their spin on them.

The numbers are unmercifully sliced and diced to suit everybody's purposes. Indeed with the raw figures barely two days old, we've already received press releases from almost every major marque claiming they are number one... In the three-door near-premium convertible diesel hatch market... For automatics... Under $45,000...

You get our drift.

So to settle any arguments and save you from reading reams of PR fluff, we've spent two days swatting and condensed the lists for you. Here follows a page of facts and figures you can use to impress friends and influence people -- or perhaps even treat seriously to get a snapshot of Australian new car vehicle marketplace...

Segmentation
It was a year of (some) ups and (mostly) downs across the Aussie automotive landscape.

Passenger cars
Light 116,086 up 21.1 per cent
Small 219,358 up 0.6 per cent
Medium 87,264 up 1.6 per cent
Large 136,606 down 18.4 per cent
Upper large 7334 up 7.5 per cent

Peoplemovers 15,442 down 1.9 per cent

Sports 1944 down 14.9 per cent

SUV
Compact 77,721 up 4.1 per cent
Medium 59,315 down 15.2 per cent
Large 15,469 down 18.9 per cent

Luxury 18,342 up 10.5 per cent

Commercials
Vans 20,453 down 5.2 per cent
Utes/CC 4x2 69,545 down 12.6 per cent
Utes/CC 4x4 67,639 up 7.8 per cent

Sales by buyer type
Of the total 931,032 Passenger, SUV and Light Commercial new vehicle sales in 2006, private buyers accounted for 455,860, Business 344,939, Government 78,559 and Rental fleets, 51,674.


Fuel for thought
Diesel passenger car sales to private buyers almost doubled in 2006 -- from 5302 to 10,556. Hybrid grew in a similar manner though of a smaller base -- 1292 sales, up from 674. In non-private sales of passenger cars diesel grew from 1869 to 5224 units.

That said the sub-16,000 unit total of diesel passenger car sales accounts for less than 2.7 per cent of the total (598,394unit) passenger car market


Resource vehicle boom
Only Western Australia increased total its new vehicles sales in 2006. The Sandgropers were up 10.2 per cent to 110,861 vehciles. NSW remains the biggest state in terms of new vehicles 293,354 units -- off 4.0 per cent from 2005. Tasmania dropped the most sales in percentage terms -- down 6.7 per cent. In numerical terms Victoria fared the worst, 14,362 vehicles down -- a drop of 5.6 per cent.

I've seen a small handful of new Outlanders on the road. A pretty well priced package and much better looking than the previous version.

All the cry boy stuff in this thread about the state of Ford marketing really has me stuffed. If it was suited to tastes written here, would that mean that you will buy more Fords?

All of which begs the question that I have been asking for over a year now, "what will Ford have to do to actually sell Falcons through 2007 until the new model comes out?"

can someone explain to me how the Yaris can outsell the Fiesta 4 to 1 ? its a mad world out there.

And the 0 LTD result has got me very saddened, not even one hired car or hearse sale; how the mighty have fallen.

Well look at what it's competing against - the WM statesman is an exciting brand new car - and Ford togther with the rest of the Automotive industry were probably caught napping as I believe early indications suggested that Holden was going to hold off releasing the new Stateman until later this year, rather than bring both the new statesman and VE online together.

And lets not forget that the 300C is offering a brand new alternative to both the usual Ford and Holden rivalry.
