I heard this morning that it hit land as a category 5, downgraded to category 4.

Should be interesting to see how things panned out.

yeah guys im originally from innisfail little upset i didnt get to be in this huge mofo cyclone..... update innisfail is apparently OK no big trees left, no way in or out flooded roads, i believe theres no deaths, most houses still stand, some lost roofs, no power - mum said almost every powerline is down....
luckly my falcon wasnt there cause the carport is about 3 blocks away!

itll be a LONG time before they get over this and theres alot of work to do im trying to find a way up there to help out cause im stuck here in townsville - doing uni.....

anyways thats most of it

My sister and ИИИ in law lost their shed, water tower and half their paw paws (500 acre farm) in Tully, hopefully the next one will change direction so as not to finish the job.

The devastation up there is incredible. You have to feel for the thousands of people put out of work due to the Banana and sugar crops being almost completely destroyed by Larry... Lets hope Wati doesnt wipe out the plantations a little further south, Proserpine/Mackay region (Which is where it looks like its heading)

As for the poor old XD... New for old insurance will do nicely in this scenario.

Back at work this afternoon, power went on at home about an hour ago. xdclevo, you look like you life just around the block from me. I sheltered up on the tablelands (bad mistake, they copped it worse then cairns). My parents had a tree down on the house (no major damage), a couple of trees blocking the road, and some major flooding. All safe and secure at home, just some debris in the yard.

could have been a lot worse, i have every sympathy for Innisfail residents.

Will post pics later.

I'm hearing you :

Mine was in an open carport, but quite safe. Just some leaves sitting on the boot luckily. The company car was parked behind it acting as a buffer. haha

good to see that you kept safe Dion. We had a few trees down, and my westside fence was blown in.Cairns was VERY lucky that over the last couple of hours the ridge along the coast had little effect in pushing it any further northwest. A cat 5 would have flattened us. Finally got our power back tonight after 37 hours without it. You forget how humid it is til there are no fans or aircon!
Looks like TC Wati will miss the coast. There is two anticyclonic conditions giuding its current path, but the one to it's west will weaken leading to it becoming stationary in the coral sea. Ifany new high in the tasman doesn't produce enough wind shear to weaken it, it will most likely pull south-east at the end of the week anyway (TC's move pole ward if there are no influencing winds) and *should* fizzle out. Time will tell
