Can u get shortened struts For an Au??

Can u get shortened struts For front of an Au?? if so who makes em? price? i have superlows all round but need it lower in the front cos i have a bit of weight out back in boot, with a full tank load it feels like a driving up a little hill and the front sits high.. thanks.

The springs are what determines height, though there are theories around that the shortened shocks may also help, but I don't think that's necessarily right. Easy way to tell if they will do anything is to compress a standard shock all the way in and see how much of the shaft sticks out of the shock casing. Then have a look at the shock fitted and if there's only that amount of shaft sticking out, then a shortened shock will reduce ride height, otherwise, it will not. IMO, perhaps only the rear shocks on an IRS equipped vehicle would even come close to achieving this.

Best bet is to ring a suspension place. I know Monroe DON'T do a shortened shock, but Koni do, and I'd bet that Bilstein would as well - both dearer brands.

FYI, Monroe do a shortened shock, i had them in my au II xr6 untill i replaced them with konis. if anyone in melbourne wants them for a small price, let me know. Also, i dont believe that shocks should change the height of the vehicle, but when i changed to the koni setup (still using the same springs) my car is definately a little higher at the front.

so u have front shortened struts for sale?? i know the shocks wont change the height of the vehicle but having the spring sit lower in the shock cup will which is what i want. this seems like to much stuffing around im steering towards coilovers now

That's right. Monroe do not do a shortened shock, just a version of Sensatrac which are the same length as standard shocks but are valved differently for factory lowered suspension as in XR series.

and known a SenselessTrac in the suspension game. Friggin crap.
Monroe only have part numbers suitable for FE2 XR etc nothing for a proper 25-50mm lowered set up.
Ppl use them cause of price and it's Russian roulette if they last or not.

Monroe also do a shortened version of the GT gas shock. I know this because I bought a set of four today. They have different part numbers to the standard length Falcon/Fairmont GT gas shocks, and are described as suitable for Tickford XR6/XR8 factory lowered suspension. As Bluedriver says, they don't do a specific length for superlows.

You can normally look at Munroe's catalogue through their web site at www.munroe.com.au, but the site has been down for the past couple of days. There are definitely two versions of both Sensatracs and GTs.

Yes the monroe range do a short shock for the REAR ONLY. But the front is standard height, there is no short option. The part numbers are the same.

Anyone had experience with sensatrac before, good or crap anyone????

I got Gabriel lowered front shocks for my EA, made my lows sit just a tad lower, very happy with them so far.

Partly right. Front GT Gas has the same part number. Front Sensatrac is different.

Yes, I intend to do this over the weekend - before and after shots.

It looks noticeablly higher now, it went up from 635-640 all round to about 675 onthe back and 670 on the front. I expect it to settle down a bit, particularly when the LPG tank goes in next week.
