Ford G6E Turbo Wins Carsguide Car of the Year
November 28, 2008
Ford's all-new G6E Turbo has won the first major national Car of the Year award for 2008, taking out the carsGuide Car of the Year, which is awarded by News Limited newspapers around the country and the online team from carsguide.com.au. In calling 2008 the 'Year of the Falcon', carsGuide credited the G6E Turbo with its annual award ahead of an all-star group of finalists, including the best from Europe and Japan. The new G6E Turbo represented the entire FG Falcon range in this year's award, where it was pitted against the best new models to go on sale in Australia this year, ranging from luxury limousines and high-performance sports sedans to the latest compact SUVs. "Winning the 2008 carsGuide Car of the Year award is an outstanding result for the G6E Turbo, as well as fantastic recognition of the exceptional large car package offered by the entire FG Falcon range," said Ford Australia President & CEO Marin Burela. "It's a resounding endorsement from News Limited's national motoring press of the G6E Turbo's world-class design, from its peerless performance to the significant step forward it has taken with improved fuel efficiency and vehicle refinement. "It also serves to recognise the FG Falcon for its leading safety credentials, as the first and only Australian-built vehicle to receive a five-star ANCAP safety rating, which puts the latest Falcon on a par with the some of the safest cars in the world. The eight judges, drawn from each state around Australia, were unequivocal in their praise of the new G6E Turbo, awarding it 77 points from a possible 80 points, well clear of the second-placed Jaguar XF, which scored 59 points. While the award was presented to the G6E Turbo, the judges said the victory was a reflection of the success of the entire FG Falcon family. "The FG range is grand, the G6E Turbo sublime. Simply the best car ever made in Australia." Kevin Hepworth, Daily Telegraph, Sydney. "Without doubt the best Falcon to roll out of Broadmeadows, perhaps even the best-ever Australian-made car." Stuart Martin, The Advertiser, Adelaide. "Simply the best Falcon ever built and perhaps the best car made in Australia. It combines all the elements of a safe family car." Mark Hinchliffe, The Courier-Mail, Brisbane. "At the end of the day Ford Australia has done an exceptional job on the new Falcon." Paul Gover, Herald Sun, Melbourne. "Simply the best car by an outback mile to wear a home-grown Ford badge. Excellent combination of power, handling, comfort and quality." Keith Didham, The Mercury, Hobart. "Is this perhaps one of the best Falcons ever? Sure it's the top-end model but even the entry FG Falcon XT is a superb driver's car." Neil McDonald, Herald Sun, Melbourne. "Europe would be proud to call this its own in all deparments." Neil Dowling, Sunday Times, Perth. "Not only the best Ford Australia has built, but also a contender for the best car Australia has built. Full stop." Karla Pincott, carsGuide.com.au The G6E Turbo's victory is the second time the Ford Falcon has been named Car of the Year in the award's 12-year history, joining the BA Falcon of 2002 on the honour roll, along with the Ford Territory, which won in 2004. "This prestigious award is a just reward for the truly outstanding efforts of the entire Ford Australia team, from our employees to our supplier partners and dealers, who all deserve the credit for delivering a new Falcon that is now an award winner," Mr Burela said. "The new G6E Turbo has proven to be a revelation with customers around the country since it went on sale earlier this year, so it's especially pleasing to see the critics feel the same way about this sensational vehicle." |
