Thanks - the car is a sort of time capsule; rough but the owner’s ideas seem to stop in the early eighties, your explanation makes good sense.

Exhaust u clamp looks to be in the way of suspension leaf vertical movement . Might be the photo ?? Solution would be to use strap tailpipe clamp from HQ |

There’s no contact or chafing, it’s the angle of my picture that makes the pieces look closer than reality.
Hoping it gets booted soon, wasting a hoist because the radiator is out? |

Correct, exhaust should not make any contact at all since it is done the same way as the HQ Monaro's, very common back in the day.
