You will most likely snag a great bargain through the FS section or a discount on high quality products or workmanship through a site sponsor. I have met friends for life on this forum, had support during my down times, including my dog dieing, my aunt getting cancer, my car getting nicked, et al. I've had a total stranger call me while drunk on the wrong tram in Melbourne at 1.00 in the morning and guide me back to my hotel. The same guy then put me up at his house during the AFF drag day. Thanks whoosha.
Facebook has torn two of my mates friendships apart through the whole "he said she said" rubbish, caused numerous fights from the wrong photo being posted, or people getting angry because they see a friend adding someone else as a friend they don't like.... I can see the point of facebook but I'd rather be a slave to aff than facebook.

Apart from people telling there life story on Facebook, and people having fights for whatever reason, you can get most stuff on Facebook as you would get here. Like join car groups, Cruises, special deals, info about cars, people sharing tips about cars whatever you like, it is bigger in fact. Facebook is much like this forum except, Facebook gives you just a bit more info about the actual person and is more interactive. But end of the day, I do not use Facebook as anyone I want to talk to, I would rather call.

I love it how half the people here think Facebook is for people who cannot/do not want to have a real life conversation.
I use it every now and then, but before when I was browsing forums, I was also on Facebook planning my day tomorrow in a 3 way chat, at the same time wiht other people we organized next weekend in another separate 3 way chat.

So instead of making about 10 phone calls this evening I planned all the same stuff with a few messages.. Oh the stuff we are doing tomorrow and on the weekend will involve real life socializing and doing activities!!
Shock horror, we can use technology for communication but also have real life friends too!!!

Due to the nature of my job(coal train driving), I can go weeks and even months at a time and not see a particular work mate. We work in a 24/7/365 business and there is someone signing on/off every hour of the day. It's not like we all can chat before or after work because our shift times are all over the shop.Out of the 150+ people who work for the company one day we may only see 4 people during our entire shift, the next day we might see 20. It's just random which makes it hard to communicate work issues with other employees and have general chats with work mates you haven't seen for 3 weeks due to conflicting shift times/locations.
We have a group of facebook that more then 50% of all employees are apart of. It's a great way to keep all these people up to date on incidents, fault finding and just general conversation and funny stories all at the same time, you don't have to individually ring 5 mates to tell them, post it on facebook work group and they all see straight away and can comment on it.
Due to the massive amounts of downtime we get at work, on our phones we can read about something interesting, helpful or just entertaining that is happening 100kms away on another train with a work mate we haven't seen for a week.

My point being is this use of technology can be great, if you don't rely on it for all your social needs.

Yep, no wonder our population is of all ages are gaining girth in the waist dept. Apart from a poor diet, technology is making us lazier people without a doubt. I can't believe kid sthese days spit the dummy because they cant find the remote and are too lazy to switch the channel from the TV itself, but they are happy spending hours on facebook or the Xvbox playing games instead of kicking the football. In the next 20 years I think they will have to make door frames in the home wider to accomadate the techo savvy occupants.

good one yaw hehehe...

gtfpv yes mate 2 teenagers, i know what comes next mate lol.

i would be hypocrite if I bagged a social network, this place is like one in a sense.

anyway i was back at work today after holidays and I thought I would mention that my boss, warehouse manager has a rule, don't email me bull crap work related rubbish come and talk to me face to face or if too busy pick up the phone, suffice to say he aint no technofile, BUT....

today, he calls me on my mobile (while I'm picking) and tells me to come into his office and show him how to use excel in order to complete staffs wages as the payroll peoples changed some things around hehehe....

there is just no escape in some cases.....

i don't really have a strong view on it one way or the other, if it all gets too much I would like to think i have the discipline to step away from it....

EDIT:
oh yeah, for those not on facebook yet, let's all put in $10 and the last one on it gets the pool, much like that seinfeld episode...

i'm with Ben73. Similar situation, shift worker, don't get to see anyone during the week.
I spend a fair bit of time on FB. It's great for organising social events etc (yes, real life meetings!), like when we go 4wd'ing, cruising, going to the pub etc etc.
Same story here, easier to post a message on there (for free) than sms 20-50 people.

We have a cruise on Australia day here in SA, raising money for Qld flood victims. I started a page for it, had 200 people listed as attending in less than 24hrs. Now over 500 people. If you want to get an event out there, it's a damned good way to do it.

As for security etc.. you don't have to add every one that sends you a 'friend request'... you don't have to 'like' every page/group, you don't have to use every 'application'... it's not really that hard.

Guess it's easier to knock something rather than try it hey..

Now i'm going to get back to organising this cruise, using that evil facebook voodoo..

As this thread has gone off topic a little here's my 2 bobs.

Hahahahahahahaha........bagging another internet social site when youse are using one daily. And probably while you are sipping a latte using your iphone.......

But anyway, technology has had an impact on todays life. Some positive things and some negative things. Easy to have nearly any info you need at your fingertips straight away. Keep in touch with people you may not be able to see often. Fat/lazy kids are not the result of technology, moreso slacker parents I'd reckon. Too often these days we just blame inanimate objects for **** that is not like it used to be. Don't like FB, don't use it. Don't like your kid with their head in the xbox all day, get him outside. People need to get hold of their lives, get real and be responsible. Social media has bugger all to do with it.

Which episode was that? I've been into the old Seinfeld again.

In fact, I should make a group for those who make Salad in the shower on Facebook. Kramer could join!

Too modern for me.

I still prefer Vinyl/Cassette tapes for music, and Betamax/VHS for videos. So much better quality from the analog!

OMG I'm gonna make a million dollars, gonna work out some sort of analog style facebook system!

Ive cut down my time on FB a bit, but sometimes Ill log on and then two seconds later think...why did I do that?

My main use for FB now is showing photo's of the kids to family overseas and chatting to them, and in return seeing what they are up to aswell.

My 10 year school reunion found lots of people through FB aswell, pity I was interstate..LOL

Personally I have found Skype to be probably the most "wow" program/utility. If FB integrates calls/video then Id probably use it more.
