I have an after market exhaust, and just recently i have noticed its become VERY quiet, especially at idle, its been on the car for about 2 years so its well and truly set in. Also i have noticed a decrease in power, which makes me think there would have to be something wrong with my system now.
Anyone have any idea on what it could be? I was thinking maybe the CAT is on the way out? And i know from previous threads that is going to end up being kind of expensive. |

Uh oh... sounds like the dreaded Cat Converter death. Happens around 3-4 years old and costs approx $1,000 to replace. Best to get it checked ASAP.
My guess is they run rich (regardless of exhaust or not) a little too often, as a result the cat gets heavily clogged and eventually cooks itself. One sur sign, if you smell sulphur (fart gas) from the back, she's dead.

With prices like that for the standard unit, you'll probably be better off going a high flow cat for 250 or so.

Cat from Ford costs $1300 for the unit itself. I remember Steve stating it when he got a quote from them

Duratec engine's a honey... no doubt. The perfect car would be an LR with a 2.0 Duratec. You'd keep it for 50 years.

If its the cat you'll know. Yopu cant get the thing above 2000 rpm without the engine stalling. I should now it happened to me on new years day this year while heading to the coast with my girlfrind to watch the sunrise. If and when your cat goes dont go to ford got to any exhaust shop. Ford quoted me $1300 for a new cat and exhaust. When i took it to an exhaust shop $220 latter got a new cat and there was nothing wrong with my exhaust.

2.5" all the way with 2 high flowed cats and made from T409 stainless steel, that'll give ya some get up and go.

2.5" is excessive for a 2.0L NA car with no other engine mods, the one thats on there at the moment is 2 1/4". Im goin to do the headers and Cat. when i get around to it, also depends on how much its gonna cost me. But im sure with all that its goin to be cheaper than $1300+
Damn you ford, why do you think you are a luxury car company..... Oh and can anyone suggest a decent Cat? brand/size etc. Much appreesh. |

amlohac can order these parts from the US and save money and get performance at the same time. Buy 230 piece socket set and do it yourself and save more money.

$1300 for a CAT?! Are you kidding?! Just reminded myself why I got out of these cars, everything is stupidly expensive for them.

i have the cat back exhaust already, thats all sorted, its a Magnaflow its awesome, just latley its gotten quiet and the cars a bit sluggish, hence my worries over the integrity of my Cat. And ive decided not to go all out with mods till it get my turbo as all the exhaust parts will probably have to be changed anyways. Thats if i dont decide to sell and go something AWD for my snowboarding.
