Howdy PPls,
Im a bit confused and very worried. On three occasions, about 2 months apart, my fez stalls for no apparent reason. All three times i have been driving for atleast 10mins with the heater on, radio on and thats it, and have been stopped at the lights. the only thing that is displayed is the engine icon on the dash. I start it up again and its fine. Does anyone have any ideas on this?? Any help would be great Cheers Damian

Its almost 100% likely its that stupid electronic throttle control (drive by wire) i had hassles with mine, where the accelerator pedal had no feel and was unresponsive, idling wasnt smooth either and on a few occasions it stalled.
I had mine computer re flashed by ford and now its all good soft ware updates are your friend.

What i have also noticed is that if you have just been driving and the car is hot, then you stop at the lights the radiator fan will start up sometimes, and when that happens it drops your Rpm on idle. so if your computer has set your idle too slow itl stall when the fan comes on.
Im going to ask for if they can somehow through the soft ware make my car idle just a little bit higher.

Weird... i havent had mine stall itself, only when i accidently take off without noticing the idle is low (its warm) and i dont give it enough of the accelerator. I have noticed what you say mitch with the fan... when that starts the engine almost chokes itself when revs drop for about 1second. But in an auto, i would get that checked out! Auto shouldnt stall really...
I did have problems with start up when the car was new... i would try to start the car and it wouldnt tick over. But its all good now... weird.

You mean cable throttle Groov3? As "Drive by Wire" and Electric Throttle are the same thing.
As for all these problems, I havent experienced ANY of them touch wood. I may just have a good fez, donno, so far so good. Just take it back anyways Mista Fiesta i'm sure ford will tell you its "normal" : |

It seems strange that cars ECUs aren't updated automatically before delivery, instead of doing it at the next available service.

I had a similar problem with my Focus. Took it to Ford and they reflashed the ECU claiming there was a TSB on the problem and the Flash of the ECU fixed the problem.
It still stalled at times, back to Ford and now they found rust deposits on the spark plugs. They cleaned the spark plugs and now no probs. Get Ford to reflash ECU and clean ur spark plugs. Tom |

should i go to the dealer to reflash the ecu and clean the spark plugs? how much will it cost? |

It shouldn't cost you anything, if you feel there is a problem, they should look at it for nothing for you under warranty.
I think it's just because everyone's Fiestas are too used to sitting on 7 grand, when it gets down to 1 grand the engines get scared and panic! : I've seen Fiesta drivers on the road! : Tim |

If your Fez is stalling its most definitely a warranty problem and you should not be charged a cent for it.
And in regards to ECU updates being put in at PD time, the way I had it explained to me is that sometimes they are not always required or beneficial to every single Fiesta, so they let them get worn in for a while and if the issue arises or is still there at service time, it is done then. That, and its not always possible to flash the cars before they are delivered - flashes take time to develop.
