Couldn't tell you about the cost of a K&N filter, but I know you can get them from Super Cheap Auto.

The Tickford Intake has a wider mouth in the opening, allowing more air in.

You will gain around 35kw's at the wheels. 1/4 mile should drop by about 1.9 seconds, 0-100 km/h will drop by a second or so....

Ha ha, Nah.. for real, the throttle response will improve marginally, no real "performance" gain to jump up and down about. I paid $117.00 for K&N panel filter plus can of recharge spray about 18 months ago.

the recharge spray is just cleaning fluid for the filter... they are reusable filters instead of buying a new one you just clean it when it gets dirty

hi blue print!
Yeah they are pretty steep, but if they are reusable then why not?
tell me... is there any difference in power after fitting it?

The kn air filters allow more air through and more small dirt particles into the engine. While they are good enough to stop rocks and things like this they do have that disadvantage.

I got my K&N from Autobarn for $95 on sale and the Tickford intake for $31. Didn't notice hugh gains but response did improve and i think the fuel economy did improve also. I did the exhaust and filter the same day though.
I figure stock filter costs around $20 for RYCO and i replace every 10,000klm's so after 5 it's paid for itself. The Tickford intake just looks good in the bay with those wings.

I don't quite agree with this, i did read an article with photos and proof when i was researching mine that contradicts that they don't filter as good. They do in fact filter better. I'll try and find the article again and post the link.

They are better than stock - otherwise everything they have on their website and tests done are BS. And as has been said - saves you the need to replace the filter every time you do a service. I live in the country and it gets very dusty (no bloody rain) back to back a Ryco and a K&N, the K&N is better, stays cleaner for longer.

We have one in the AU, its absolutely stock enginewise, and we put a K&N in and a Tickford intake on at about 80,000kms. It did make a noticable difference - opened it up more and had a bit more go, and those are dads observations not mine.

I run kn air filter for the reason that it is reusable. The kn filter made a very noticeable difference in my old standard eb wagon.

I did observe a 4rwkw gain on a blueprint TE series 3 fitted with a BMC filter compared to the stock.

If another dyno day for AU's happens again I will bring along a brand new replacemant paper filter to see what the difference in rwkw between a NEW paper eliment and a K&N or a BMC filter.

Don't expect that you will see any more difference between any two runs that you normally get with or without a filter let alone changing filters.

They are not a performance mod.

Cold air intakes are but filters aren't they just filter the air better or worse and are reusable or not thats it.

thinking bout 35 for cleaner and oil. I have used it heaps of times and still have heaps left. Remember to follow instructions and only oil on the intake side of the filter

Makes me wonder sometimes if these new $$$ filters are really any better than like the old reusable foam filter soaked in oil for dirtbikes/motorbikes years ago !( was just plain spongy foam ) !. Sounds to me really like its the same concept really, and a 1cm thick piece of sponge foam is only around $2 !!/ fully reusable/washable and can oil 1 side like on the k&n filters . got me thinking.

I used to deal with finer filters and they are of a foam construction. The had a foam "pre-filter" which was just the foam surrounding the actual filter. They were easily washable and were handy for 4 wheel drivers in the dusty conditions up north.
I don't know the density/composition of their filters, but there is always the possibility of youe $2 piece of foam doing the job. Might be an idea to contact finer filters and find out about their oil as well.
