Hey!
My AU series one is scrubbing out the insides of the front tyres on both the left and right hand sides.... The right hand side is almost down to the belts :( This has never been a problem before until recently The wheel alignment is out a bit, and there is a bit of squeaking from the bushes. Also a bit of a steering wheel shudder when doing 100km + The right hand wheel has a bit of give in it ie u can rock it a little virtically, however the other side seems to be ok. Would a ball joint scrub the insides of both tyres out? Whats the best way for me to solve the prob? Take it to tyre place or give it to mechanic (Worried they will replace everything and send me broke without fixing the cause of the prob) Any help would be great |

could be your wheel bearings, easy to do yourself, that may explain the steering wheel shuddering

It needs a camber/castor kit - same problem as me unfortunately.
I won't be fixing it though, as it takes a while to scrub the tyres out and spending money on the AU really isn't something I want to do now... |

Get the alignment checked ... it can be a number fo things though.
most commonly if there is some toe-out in the front it will cause scrubbing of the insides of the front tyres .... also negative camber can do this as well. Ball joints can cause it as well ... although ball joints can cause weird pattern wear on tyres though ... not just the insides.

id say the alignment is your problem.
get your tyres aligned, and if it still scrubs, then look at other problems. dont waste your money now when it could just be a 40 dollar solution

take it to a front end specialist, they'll make it sit perfect on the road and make sure everythings in order, might even save you money on tire wear in the future

i had 5 different places do wheel alignment on my xr8 as it would wear the insides of the fronts out in roughly 10-15 thousand kms and the last time the bloke did the wheel alignment said all the bushes were shagged in the front end so replaced them. now 12 mnths and 35 thousand later i now have to replace the tyres all round but am alot happier with it now so get the bushes in the front end looked at

but what can explain the right wheel with movement (that can't be good, wheel bearing if you ask me) , and the steering wheel shudder ( wheel balancing would be a start)

its a waste of time and money putting new tyres on if you have poor alignment or worn components, i would take it to an alingment specialist usually they can fit tyres as well.

i had a similar prob but just the lhs i replaced the frount shocks $110
each its seems to be a lot better but only time will tell. its pretty easy to change the shocks |
