Without a doubt, but the fact that it’s likely spreading within the community and developing some low level resistance among the population with no symptoms let alone hospitalisations is a great result.

Looking like a 6 day closure except for a few exemptions

Perhaps, but a rather remarkable outcome.

I agree with her, they have done the best job so far of that balance, fingers crossed it doesnt get out of control and if it does she locks specific area's only.

This whole state lockdown thing is out of control and lazy, but is the logistically easy option.

Almost certainly there are 'some' unidentified cases of community transmission in Victoria as well as elsewhere. Testing in Victoria is down about 2/3rd on where it had been although the National numbers have been up the last two days with about 40k and 57k (it had been 22k the day before).

So is covid gonna be used to usher in the great reset as suggested by some commentators?

Could be an interesting next few years if so.

From the DHHS website:

Testing for Portland and Benalla residents
Portland and Benalla residents - and recent visitors - with any symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are urged to get tested following the detection of viral fragments in local wastewater recently.

People who live or have travelled through these areas in recent days who have any symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) should get tested as soon as possible and isolate as they wait for their results.

While the test results may not mean there are currently active cases of COVID-19 in these communities, the Department of Health and Human Services is urging residents and recent visitors with even the mildest of symptoms to get tested.

Symptoms to watch out for include:

Loss or change in sense of smell or taste
Fever
Chills or sweats
Cough
Sore throat
Shortness of breath
Runny nose
Hours will be extended at local testing sites for the coming days, with additional testing capacity to be made available. Local testing sites can be found at the Where to Get Tested Page.

Fragments of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes coronavirus, were detected in untreated wastewater taken from Benalla and Portland wastewater treatment plants on Tuesday 17 November. The preliminary positive test results, received on Wednesday 18 November, are unexpected given there are no residents of either area known to have had a recent COVID-19 illness or diagnosis.

Further wastewater samples are being taken from those two towns – and this detection has no impact on local water supplies.

From what i can tell the difference is that he said he contracted it by simply buying a pizza, this suggested that the strain was faster moving and more infectious than previously seen and that any subsequent contacts would be equally as fast moving, now we find out the pizza shop worker and the liar were close contacts meaning the simple act of buying a pizza wasnt enough to transmit the virus so its not as fast moving as thought.

Plenty of flip flopping by Spurrier and co. on Wednesday it was a 'particular sneaky strain' of Covid which hadnt been seen before, now they say its just covid which was unique in its origin in that it was found to have come from the genes of a returned traveller, so there was nothing unique about the strain at all.
Although i still believe erring on the side of caution is the correct way to deal with covid outbreaks, its hard to ignore the lockdown as a massive overreaction.

Those comments about a fast-transmitted strain have obviously come from the belief that someone walked in to collect a pizza and was infected in the time that that takes.
Now its known to be false, the idea of it being an aggressive strain is no longer valid.

Data valid as at 23:59 GMT November 19th, 2020.

Note: As not all Australian States report at the same time, the data below is based on the previous full day reporting.

8 new cases for Australia and no deaths so the CMR drops to 3.264% while active cases rise to 1,372. NSW recorded 5 cases and Queensland recorded 3.

2 new cases and no deaths for NZ so CMR is 1.244% and active cases fall to 37.

The UK had a higher 22,915 cases yesterday. We know they are now not counting their mortalities by the WHO guidelines so we are going to ignore the CMR but even using their method they recorded 501 deaths.

Just over 176.5k new cases in the USA yesterday and 1,961 deaths sees CMR drop to 2.158% and active cases rise to 37.5% with the raw numbers rising and now over 4.4M. Note that the USA is actually minus one day due to time differences.

Other notable points:
Global cases pass 57M with the last 1M taking 1 day;
Global deaths set a new daily record of 10,980 (18/11);
The USA passes 12M cases;
India passes 9M cases;
Russia passes 2M cases;
The USA completes 174M, India 128M, Germany 26M and Ukraine 4M tests.

Finland (351);
Albania (786) for the 5th consecutive day;
Belarus (1,382);
Japan (2,151) - the previous high on August 3rd;
Azerbaijan (2,597);
Georgia (3,697);
Serbia (6,109);
Ukraine (13,357);
Russia (23,610); and
Germany (23,676)

... all
recorded new daily highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive days.

Agreed, but rather than admit that was the reasoning behind that belief, Spurrier just brushed the questioning off by suggesting they meant it was unique in its origins, not the actual strain.
I think if a person in her position starts to gauge a virus on the word of some random on their actions and not on the actual science and this leads her to suggest a full state lockdown is necessary, she should be more forthcoming in admitting she got it wrong as lots of scientists have said there was nothing unique about it.
I've been a staunch believer in her abilities but she was all over the place today and failed to give concise answers, the conduct of someone in defence mode.

I guess thats the price when science and politics collide..
