I am sure it would be an awesome bit of gear.....but, the article doesnt mention any delivery to Australia for the ST.

If the last ST deliveries were anything to go by about 200 would make it our shores

Yep! just read an article in todays Sunday Times in WA. Will be here next year. There was no mention of pricing though. I could only assume it would up and above 50k on road.

Any thoughts?

Surely $50k would price it out of the market, thats the price of an XR8 Sedan.

yeh, thats my only concern. Just pricing it up against some of the other hot imported turbo cars out there and their prices.

I mean, a volvo s40 T5 (where ST parts originate), falls just short of $60k, before on roads.

I would sure like to own one of these beauties, but if the price aint right, then obviously i cant afford it.

It's have to be below $40K to compete with Golf GTI and RenaultSport Megane 225. I wouldn't use the Volvo T5 as a benchmark, there's much more kit in the Volvo.

Now, question is, would I want to buy another orphan hot Ford?

Im fairly sure a 2.5L 5cyl turbo spinning at 6100rpm will use its fair share of 98ron, lol.

Awesome to see they're releasing it tho. Serious piece of kit!

Yeh im not surprised about the weight, the thing is full of equipment and its a gorgeous thing, the times are good, and its supposed to handle better then the Mk1 RS.

Pricing is i think $37,000 - $39,000.

If we use the UK prices as a guide, you will find that the new ST should not cost anywhere near 50 - 60k.

In the UK the ST170 typically retailed from £15995 pounds and for $37000 in Oz. The new ST starts from £17495, so I think it would reasonable to expect a price of between 40k and 43k when it arrives in Oz.

The car looks fantastic, has a great interior, will have brilliant acceleration and even better handling than the current ST ....er hang on..even better handling? is that possible?:.

Dunno about you, but at just over 40k, I reckon it'll be a bargain!

Guess I had better start saving then.....

The ol ST170 was around $41 wasn't it, if it is around that price, it won't be to bad, around the same price for a WRX too.

Not so small anymore!!!!! I'd imagine this thing with 166kw or whatever will absolutely crank. It's the torque that'll fire it beyond the horizon - 320nM ain't shabby!!! I think though doesn't the TDCi Diesel Focus have 340nM???!!!! That's amazing! That's more torque than a Commodore 3.6L V6 isn't it??!!!!!!! : Lincoln, can I be your car washer and driveway attendant in the UK? What with your love of hot Ford and Frenchies and no doubt an RS or two in the driveway, somebody needs to warm them up for you each morning and keep them clean on weekends!! Is this a FWD, RWD or AWD? Talk about a pocket rocket! Couldn't they fit another cylinder in there? Or would that stuff up the name and the XR6T market? lol

Imagine that...XR6T in a 1350kgs chassis...

Still a bit of tinkering and this thing would be insane...

Conversion rate puts the base ST at about AU$41,500 Then there is the ST2 and ST3 which have higher levels of internal trim.

Now - don't forget England have higher levels of taxation of cars than in Australia, so without taxes it could be say $35,000, then with import excise or whatever could be about $37,000.

I figure it will be priced similar to the ST170 - and other cars in that market from Europe.

Would be lighting quick around the track, too.

Its nurburgring times well a full 10 seconds quicker than the Mk1 RS.

Would be a very nice addition to the garage.

But I am thinking that it would be more around the 40-45k mark.

Interesting to see HSV announced the release of the VXR (read Opel modified Astra turbo coupe) at the same time.... I think it's got a few kw over the Focus. Interesting times ahead, the sales battle will be hot! http://www.hsv.com.au/vxr/vxr.html

VXR has stuff like Recaro seats and 19" alloys standard too.

Has Ford Australia got anything out officially yet on their website? Are FPV selling it, or Ford?

edit on other thread: http://www.ford.com.au/newfocus/xr5/ and it has Recaro seats standard too!
