Hi guys , seems im up for some new tryres on my 16" 5spoke rims ( yeah i know they are only 16's ! - im fine with them and i like the 'buzzsaw' look ).
Anyway , as it is now the car has 225's all around , but im breaking traction constantlly between 1'st and second gear, im just wondering if anyone has had 245's on the standard 16" AUII XR6 rims , any clearance problems , too much body roll from the tyres being to wide for the rims ?? , any help appreciated , i would rather go 245's on the rear than 235's if possible , cheers .. ???

Best to ask Turbo_Nick this one ... he has a book on all the sizes that fit each model vehicle and the recommended widths and aspect ratios as well. And can recommend tyres suited to your budget/application

it would be 'illegal'
afaik the 16's are only a 7" rim you can't even put a 235 on them legally..

Yeah it's good in winter travelling at night when needing to stop to take a leak ... at least I stay warm for that minute or 2 ... hee hee ... just kidding. I do "startle" some animals at night.

I had 215s on my old buzzsaw rims on the XLS ute ... but not sure if there was a difference between the XR and the ute XLS rims ... but with the 215's though they bulged out a far way too ... I don't know how 235s would fit on them ... I think they'd be widest you could go. I know my 17" Territory wheels are 7.5" wide .... and XR 17"s are usually 8" wide. I can't be certain for the 16" wide wheel ... but I think Tibbo might be right with the width though.

sorry i read the sticker wrong , my mistake , is says for R16's 225/235 and for R17's 235/245 . wasn't there some rule that you can go 1 size over the max on the stickers ?? Just to note too , with the 225's 50 series profile on the 16's the tyres don't seem to be hanging off the rim to much . i originally had 245's 50 series on R15 8" rims years ago, they seemed fine .

The rims are 16x7. Max tyre size (legally) is 225/50/16. I think if you got a quote on 245/50/16 you wouldn't even be asking this question - it is an odd size, and would cost double what a normal 225 tyre costs. I would surprised if they even come in that size at all. If you want 245s, go to a 17 x 8 or 18 x8 rim.
You would be much better off spending the money on a legal, good quality tyre. Bridgestone G3s are fairly sticky, and there are plenty of other brands that will offer a high performance tyre in that size.

If you went to a size like that apart from what JC said you would het a fair bit of tyre float by that i mean the side wall in the tyre would flex heaps giving poor steering feedback (watch the rear wheel camera on the V8's) that shows extreme sidewall flex but caused by a different problem (high speed fully loaded 600hp car) but as JC said Bridgestone Potenza G3's are a great tyre i have them on my car best tyre ive drivin on but they are pricey 250 odd for 235/45/17 id say around 200 for 16's

i got 225's on my 215 spec rims... and the tire seems to roll on itself a fair bit. maybe pressures are down. but just go with what the sticker says IMO.
