Default Why my 2007 BFII Ghia is a keeper

I have owned a few Fords, as you can see, and my Ghia is my favourite.

I also have an FGX XR6 Ute (with leather) and I'd rather drive the Ghia.

It cruises in relative silence on the open road, the leather seats are extremely extremely comfortable; and the premium sound is great.

It's worth about $8,000.

I just drove from Tumut to Shellharbour. I reset everything at Gundagai where I met the Hume Hwy and then recorded fuel usage at the Illawarra turnoff.

Can you believe 7.6l/100kms?

The car is standard except for the FGX wheels.

Jeeez 7.6L!

I've got a BA Fairlane and the best I've ever seen is 9.0 on the highway. Must be the difference between the BTR and the ZF. Oh and the extra 200kg on my car

Ye i'm REALLY happy with my BF2 wagon.

Been getting 730k's per tank and thats running E10!

Bloody good reliable dependable car I reckon.

Nice cars the BF mk2 Ghias are. If you think they are great, just wait till you drive a FG mk2 G6E they are 100 times better. Ford really got it sorted with FG mk2s, sensational cars.

Yep, love the BF, my BF GT is also a keeper, plus I much prefer the styling over the newer Falcons.

Re fuel economy, they are great on the open road.

I believe it my ZF BF11 also got 7.6 average Sydney to Brisbane 3 up with A/C on all the way, funny thing is I now have a FG11 and did the same trip and got, you guessed it 7.6l/100

I have a BF Mk2 Ghia it has just done 150,000kms in 8 an half
years. It has been very reliable minimal problems, I get around 800kms a tank open road 600 around town. Don't see any need to sell it..

Ha! You haven't begun to see real inefficiency. Lived in Central Auckland and had to go to school and back each day in rush hour traffic. My BA averaged 19.7L/100KM at an average speed of 21 Kph

I no longer have that commute, and the car gets 11.8L/100KM with an average speed of 51kph. So it's not like my car had any issues.

Yep, couldn't agree more. My November 2007 built BFII XR6 Turbo has done just over 300,000 (almost trouble free) k's. The only trouble I have had with it is a blown turbo (thanks to a blocked oil pipe, even though I changed that bloody in-line oil filter every 20,000 k's) and a couple of sets of diff bushes. I was offered $2k for it as a trade in when I bought a new Territory a couple of months ago. So for the sake of a couple of grand, it's now in mothballs.

Can't rank them higher, I have an 08 ghia and it runs 10.3 around town and 8 flat on the freeway. Mind you it has a turbo snorkel and a k&n filter but it is way better on the juice then my wifes g6 ecoboost. Performance wise they are similar. The ghia is nicer, not so many hard plastics as the fg and atleast you can look at the ICC as opposed to being blinded by the reflection of the screen being so high..

I feel the same way about my BF Fairmont. I haven't taken it on a road trip for quite some time, I might just find a weekend to do that. These cars are fantastic out on the open road.

Pity it's not called a Fairmont Ghia.

I drove an FG Mk2 XR6 while I was on holiday in NZ last year. Fantastic car, absolutely brilliant on long highway trips - they are what these cars are made for. But '100 times better' than the BF it is not.

I swapped the wheels over from my FGX XR6 ute which I use for towing a caravan.

We have four cars at the moment and I am whittling them down to two - the Ghia and the ute.

The Ghia will be my car and the ute my wife's - that's how much I love the Ghia!

I would be interested in your comments on your two cars CSV8.

I believe that after the Ghia, Ford started pulling money out of their cars.

In 2008 a BFII Ghia was $46490 EGC

Today you can get a G6E for Starting Price $44,201 (my guess is it is 4 cylinder). This is a drive away price

The only way Ford can meet the market is to cut corners on fittings, sound proofing, stereo quality etc. Is the transmission that is noe made in China just as good as the one in my BFII Ghia? For example.

I have not updated my Ghia. The question I keep asking myself is - Is the G6E upgrade cost of $35,000 worth it? I don't think so.

Although I confess I have been looking at low mileage Fairlanes and LTDs.

I have had the transmission serviced, and I also have a transmission cooler fitted to the Ghia. These 6 cylinder engines are bullet proof so there is no reason why I shouldn't get at least 200,000kms out of it without any major dramas.

You can't directly compare Ghia to G6E though as it was neither a Fairmont or Ghia replacement, whereas the G6 was pretty much a direct Futura replacement. Ford had also slashed several thousands off the RRP for Ghia in 2007-2008.

CAV..I only have the BF Mk 2 Ghia the FGX G6E ,just happened to park next to me !! IF I was to replace the Ghia, it would be a Calais V, value for money. Just compare G6E specs to Calais V specs, G6E is left wanting. Ford dropped the bundle on luxury cars. Not sure what the G6E is supposed to be..Even Mondeo Trend is better equipped than the G6E and cheaper!! Mine has only had routine servicing, tyres, batteries,roof lining, boot struts. Replaced under warranty : diff bushes, Momo steering wheel, it cracked, Its been great just age wear and tear..Hard decision but I would keep it as long it keeps going..Parts wont be an issue. I even got a front fog light within two days, last year. Cheers

My ba has done 417,00KM and mechanically it feels as tight as a drum. Tranny clunks slightly at low speed/load and the diff has a quiet mild whine at 95-110 kph, but that's it. Oh injectors may not be too brilliant as every now and then it start missing, but problem is minor and always passes with a tank of ultimate, heavy foot driving and some injector cleaner. Have done this every time they start acting up and it sorts the issue for the next couple months.

Long story short, a lot of life left in this car! Frankly I'm incredibly pleased with the car. Could be better on the gas, but win some loose some. This cars a keeper, that's for sure. Good job ford.

Ops nearly forgot ba ghia
& 09 G6ET. elite automotive tuned 288rwkw 7.9L HWY better than stock
This is only the ghias i have owned of owned alot of xrs & typhoons besides base falcons .
All had k&n filter & better snorkel or modified snorkel.
Best most comfortable for hyw traveling the (xf ghia) with 15 inch wheels to absorb bumps. Then el ghia.just my 2 cents

my family keep suggesting i should update to a newer car and get something more economical because it's a V8 (BF2 xr8 ute). for what it's worth, it wouldn't do me much good to trade in. it's already paid for and reliable, so why go through the hassle of updating if i already have a darn nice vehicle? maybe i save $20 at the bowser, but it's going to take a long time to pay off the 20k in depreciation i'd have to consider.

Mate, you are like me in the sense that paid for (I also own my ghia outright) means you don't need to pay interest in a loan every week, which probably blows the fuel savings out the window. Anyway, who wants to drive a yaris? I don't care how far a tank goes you need to be comfortable

Hi mate well a good friend of mine had a bf1 or 2 not shore which 1, ego magnet xr8 ute very nice ute 20tho trade in on ranger his biggest regret selling it.so yes if u like it keep it, they still have quite a big following & hold value reasonably well.
