Default ACL Gasket company

Hello all,

does anyone know what happened to the ACL Gasket company? I don't see their lineup in stores anymore.
I know the race series seems to be still available.
Google Maps shows what looks like an abandoned building.
https://www.google.com/maps/@-27.430...7i13312!8i6656.

Just curious.
cheers

Bill.

Here http://www.aclperformance.com.au/contact_us.htm it says:

Quote:
ACL no longer manufactures or sells pistons or gaskets. For all gasket and piston inquiries

Contact Nason Engine Parts nason.com.au

And this news report said:

Launceston car parts maker ACL shuts down with loss of 136 jobs

ACL Bearing's closure delivers double blow to Launceston families and the local economy.

The Launceston factory, which began life as Repco in 1937, has been in receivership since 2009.

The critical blow came with the demise of Ford, a key customer for ACL, which will close its Australian operations in 2016.
But ACL New Zealand a NZ owned parts distributors seems to be still going: http://www.acl.co.nz/about-us/

Same with abandoned railway station with no train running

I know with the Launceston closure it was a big deal. Launceston is only about 100,000 people and about that time there were a few closures in this type of manufacturing affecting car and agricultural stuff . The trickle down affect of our car industry ceasing is not just the car factories but the whole supply chain .
It's tens of thousands of jobs in reality . Some businesses diversify for other arms of manufacture , some can't because there is no market or not a big enough market .

In the mid 1990's Tasrail closed down the old Railway workshops from the 1870's and modernised on a different site for the newer stuff . The original Inveresk workshops were made redundant and some jobs were lost . Over time there has been a major re development of the site involving the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery and UTAS .. and now people are employed to run an interactive place that is great to visit when in Launceston . The tramway is part of that and these old trams from early in the city's history have been restored and made to be enjoyed again .

In the 1950's our locomotives and rolling stock were built from the ground up in the original railway workshops , not just maintained as they are now .

http://www.greatrailexperiencestasma...13439941406250 . A little bit on this that keeps getting bigger and better as time moves on .

Thanks gents,

I did hear about the Tasmanian plant closure in 2014 but there was also a restart of the business in 2015. Not sure if this is still a going concern. They still have catalogues online.
cheers
Bill

Do you mean this: ACL https://www.aclus.com/bimetal-bearings-contact.html if so, no Oz gaskets there either. It bought the Tasmanian Bearing Arm of the old ACL https://www.enginebuildermag.com/201...aring-company/. But they did recently buy another gasket company https://performanceracing.com/news/a...roduct-manager , Ajusa, which is a Spanish gasket manufacturer and one of the premier suppliers of gaskets for Asian and European engines throughout Europe.
