Default Speedo reading wrong.

Hey Hey,

Since converting my S2 AU SR to manual the speedo is way out at 100kph. When I'm doing 100kph on the dash i swear I'm doing nearly 120kph as I'm passing people pretty dam quick.

How can i check to see how far out it is ? I have 2 other cars but i don't trust the speedo on them as one of them is 41 years old and the other is a Daewoo that been around the clock.

Suggestions welcome.

Des

Use one of those speedo correcting units from shiftkits.com or change the diff ratio. I need a new LSD diff.

Or a phone with GPS.

Or you could even be really silly and take it into a speedo place and get it fixed.

i would take it to a mechanic to have it checked out thoroughly. it's no good having a speedo that doesn't read correctly. you'll spen more time on the couch than in the car.

I'd rather do it myself. I could buy a speedo corrector box from shiftkits.com but i dont see the point when my diff is on the way out and i'll be fixing it soonish.

If you are using standard factory options (gearbox, diff ratio, tyre diameter), then it should just be a matter of using the correct speedo drive gear/driven gear combination.

The speedo drive gear is internal to the gearbox, so you wouldn't really want to replace that, so it should just be a matter of identifying and sourcing the appropriate speedo driven gear.

Have you got a 3.08 or 3.23 diff? The speedo gear will be for 3.45's

just swap out the speedo senders.. they should be the same (apart from the ratio, which is obvious), but the manual and auto ones are practically the same, just for diff ratios..
