baz is yours an auto or a manual?? Either way though it shouldn't be doing it. Check for any vacuum leaks and take it from there.

I got stuck at a road workes for a long time today, seems like it fixed the computer memory, so if you change your battery let it idle for a long time.
Well I hope that was what fixed it.

Update, letting it idle for a few minutes brought it back to normal.
would attaching jumper leads from a donor battery to the terminals before removing dead battery keep all the memory?

Baz is it running OK now ?? When you disconnect the battery it does take a while for the ECU to adjust again. The best thing I have found is to take it for a half hour run on the freeway (in my case the M5) and this usually sorts it out and everything will be back to normal.

Yes its back to normal now, letting it idle at the road works for about 3 minutes fixed the problem.
I think the jumper lead idea might be the way to go though.
