Default What to do around Newcastle

Going up to Warner's Bay with the wife for a few days next week, she has a work course to do which will leave me with her company car, free fuel and about 2 days to fill in. Will be going to Pokolbin on Saturday night then heading home on Sunday. After some advice or suggestions on what to do on Friday and Saturday. At this stage we're staying at the Mercure in Charlestown unless anybody has a better venue?

Not a lot to do around Newcastle. Got the foreshore to cut some laps, out to the Vineyards around pokolbin. plenty of nice places to eat. It is a pretty widespread area.

Drive around ripping burnouts, dis-obey the posted speed limit and make sure you're the first car at every set of lights whilst you're in this town. You will then fit in well with the locals!

It depends what type of things you are in to. It also depends what date you are coming. Have you been to Newcastle before?

If you are into just driving around, Newcastle have some great beaches that you can just drive around. As WAR40T said, cut some laps - Nobbys and Newcastle beaches are also where the car enthusiasts hang out.

If you let us know some of your interests some of us may be able to come up with plenty of ideas. Contrary to what a lot of people say Newcastle is a great place to live and visit.

The drive around the beaches, foreshore is pretty good. just watch out for all the "safety camera's" they are on nearly every cross road intersection.

Newy is really boring now (well when I was there 6 months ago). Cessnock area has nothing but vineyards. Maitland is dead and Rutherford is a shitpit 'cause it's so busy. Sorry to be a downer haha

I find it's more the young guns in their ricers with a canon exhausts that are the problem . but back on topic, it depends on your interests as to what is on offer. something someone in their 20s is after may hold no interest for someone in their 40s

Yeah, but recently I was entertained by a hoon in a light blue BA/F XR6 that decided to do some drifting around the Barnsley / Homlesville roundabout holding up traffic as he went around at a 45% angle 8 or 9 times! I had a front row seat as I waited to enter the roundabout lol!

To the O.P. what things are you into? While your here pony up for some go-kart action, take a spin down to Nelson Bay Port Stephens, Aviation Museum at Williamtown (its pretty small but), Hunter Valley Gardens and plenty in-between.

Can't partake in any hooning as I will be in a VW van fully signwritten. Won't go down so well and also wouldn't look the part. It is on steelies though......

I have been to Newcastle before in February but it was only 'on the way through'. Had lunch in the wharf area with all the restaurants and that was about it.

au3xr6 - we are actually staying at Warners on the Bay the first 2 nights then up to the Mercure at Pokolbin for the 3rd night, home the next day.

The wife will no doubt want to hit up the Westfield etc.

Mate it is very hard to suggest things when you live in the area for so many years - you become accustomed to everything and take it for granted.

If you enjoy a good coffee then Hippos in Warners Bay is pretty good.

If you enjoy the club life (nice dinner watch sports and/or a little flutter) then Wests at New Lambton is good or you could go South to Belmont 16fters - I haven't been there for a few years but I would assume that it still good for a relaxing time.

If your wife is looking to do some shopping then you have Charlestown Square, Westfield at Kotara or if you are looking for an outdoor shopping centre Glendale Supa Centre. Don't go to Newcastle Mall - you will be very disappointed.

One word: Frontline Hobbies, well two words actually

the largest hobby shop in the Southern Hemisphere!
not sure of the exact address, but it is in Hunter street. Google may be your friend here.

If you are into old school, you can sing 'The Newcastle Song', which makes references to Hunter street.
