Default John Goss Bathurst winning cars on display - Ford Discovery Centre

Hi all, Felicity from the Ford Discovery Centre here. Thought you might be interested in the newest additions to our display. Hope to see you all soon.

Visit the Ford Discovery Centre before the end of January 2007 and see Australian Motor Racing Legend John Goss’s 1974 Bathurst winning XA Falcon GT along with his 1985 Bathurst winning Jaguar XJS.

This is a great opportunity for the motor racing enthusiast to get up close to 2 icons of Australian Motor Racing history. John Goss has faithfully restored both cars to their original racing condition.

The Ford Discovery Centre also boasts displays on the history of Ford Motor Company in Australia from it’s beginnings in a converted flour mill in Geelong in 1925 to current production vehicles, as well as the chance to view robots, crash test dummies, cutaway displays, clay models and much much more. There’s something for all the family.

The Centre is open Wednesday to Monday from 10am to 5pm, closed Tuesdays and Christmas Day and New Years Day. For further information phone the Centre on 52278700.

No smally351, this is the real deal. It is the re-shelled race car. It did race with a different body but after leaving it sit for many years, John faithfully restored it to it's original specifications, even going so far as to use an original race shell allocated to him in the 1970's for the car. The body shell is even stamped as a development body.

John's commitment and attention to detail are amazing to see. And the car is so loud it set off someones car alarm getting it off the trailer! It sounds awesome!

After speaking to John and hearing the story from his own mouth, please be assured that the Falcon is the real deal. Re-shelled, yes, but the original car. John has gone to great lengths to restore it back to its former glory and did mention that there was quite a bit of mis-information around about the vehicle.

Sorry to be pedantic, but if the shell is changed it isnt the original car, everything else might be off the original shell, but its not the "shell" or car that Goss raced to win Bathurst, it may have raced later in its life, im not sure, but this isnt the Bathurst winning Shell/car.. :-)
Same deal as Bowdens Moffat phase 3, that shell was changed and raced as the 72 car, the original 71 Bathurst winning shell is dead.

4Vman, pedantic - yes. : Still, I challenge you to find a race vehicle that is totally original. Show me where I can find another Bathurst winning car (in this case two cars) still owned by the original driver and complete with 'straight from the horses mouth' history.

Whatever your take on the vehicle, it's definately well worth a look. As is the Jag. John is a passionate man who, according to those closest to him, most likely dreams in blue and white. If you ever get the opportunity to meet and speak with him i'd highly recommend it.

Hope to see you in the Centre one day in the coming months.

Any car that has Certificate of Description (COD) is very original. Group C cars require a COD and the John Goss Falcon in question hasn't got one.

I think we know where the car in question stands, let's leave it at that.
Reshell or not, I want to go and have a look at it !

It's still well worth seeing, although I'm more impressed by the XB. When I saw the XA at Bathurst last year it had some items that were definately incorrect. Most likely they have been fixed by now. One thing amazed me - it had no fan. The thing boiled when they were playing around with the timing and the Webers prior to it doing the display lap.

Saw the cars at Sandown historics, definitely go to see them - the only trouble is they won't be running, they sound fantastic. The Jag is even louder than the Falcon if anything

They weren't bad either, but not really that much louder I thought. They run mufflers which doesn't help. For the really loud cars it has to be cars from UK/US that don't have mufflers. I can't wait to see the F5000's run at Philip Island next Feb, there is supposed to be 30 cars there and the track is a lot better for spectating.

I can't remember exactly but it was either the XA or the XB that Gossy was selling back then for 14k c/w spare slicks and wets and motor and road reg.
Almost got after talking to him on phone.

The bank wouldn't give me a loan...probably would've killed myself anyway..so just as well.
