Default New v6 DI 3.0 bad fuel economy!!

Seems theres a new GM car with this engine and the economy is no better dropping from 3.6 to 3.0. Theres less torque, so has to be floored more to get into the revs to move it at the same rate. US fuel ratings have constant acceleration forces that must be met. That means it cant be driven really slowly just to get good economy.

Thats what the commodore will be like in the real world, our GOVT figures may hide it so it seems its a fair bit better than the 3.6.

The car is a new model Buick Lacrosse, and has a 3.6DI engine, or a 3.0DI engine. Same as our commodores.

No surprise really. Peak torque of 305Nm @ 5200rpm + 1700kg car is as quite a huge mismatch.

Wonder what the Australian Standard figure will be. I'd expect high 9s.

PS The constant acceleration figure idea in the US test is a good one.

Even the diehard GM fans on that site are calling it an 'engine issue'. The issue is as they say, it's a crap engine

The 4th poster, mjd1001 had this to say.

This is one thing I just don't get about GM.

They are constantly making bigger and bigger V8's (through the ingenious re-boring process), but mention V6 to them and they go backwards making an engine more than twice as small as their current LS3?...

As mentioned, this motor is overworked in a 1700kg sedan, which is not only bad for fuel economy but also bad for engine longevity.

This 3.0L V6 would have worked well with a low-boost supercharger between the banks...
