Default Political comments

Whats the deal with having a go at the government. If I was to call John Howard a lying scumbag, then I would be warned about political comments and the thread would go the way of other poltical threads. I am curious. Whats so bad about having a dig at the government. I could have a go at Holden or japanese cars all I like. And no-one would have a problem. We all know how bad those cars are, and we continue to point out their flaws. We all know how bad the government is, but we arn't aloud to point that out?

Has it got something to do with government regulations on web sites. Like no porno etc etc etc? Do we get reviewed by government authorities? I'm just curious as to why we are censored on the subject of political bashing. I work for the government, and i bag the hell out of them at work. No-one there seems to have an issue with it.

Anyway, just curious, thats all

Yeah interesting point, I guess admin just dont want flame wars etc etc erupting. I mean lets face it, politics is one of THE most controversial topics there is, and seeing as half the time we cant even handle FPV vs. Tickford, I dont think we'd last very long with Liberal vs. Labour! :Reverend:

Besides, everybody knows Kim Beasley is a fatarse moron

Depends on the topic, comments about goverments decisions that affect cars, roads motoring are fair go, always have been.
But direct political battle threads or totally party political jibes dropped into unrelated posts are poor form.
If the axe that needs grinding is all political and non automotive then there are other forums out there that would welcome the input.

Previous experiences would be the reason.

The end result of political threads of that kind on the "other" forums is exactly the reason why you wont see them here. That, and common sense. Why should a Ford loving community be divided by politics? Lets just enjoy our Fords without getting at each other's throats with politics, I say...

It is because EVERY political thread has turned sour and just ends up an abuse session.
As such, don't bother starting one and we wont have to bother closing it

At least politics is a worthwhile discussion, not like many of the other off topic threads.

What's so bad about Johnny anyhow? Sure they're not perfect but they're all a hell of a lot better than maybe having Harold Scruby running this place. Fwoar - shoot me now.

How about threads regarding speed cameras, etc? They're political... Is there a clear line that we cannot cross, or is it more of a hazy area?

Because is seems that none of us have a problem with bashing Bracks! :the_finge (me included!)

I think it boils down to manners in alot of ways. One thing my parents always said is at functions ( whatever sort i dont think it matters) never discuss politics, religon, and there was something else but cannot remember it. I think that the discussions about speed cameras are relevant as this is a car forum and we all drive ( and yes bashing bracks is fun too) but when it boils down to union talks etc there is always going to be the potential for a huge barney...

I suppose simplifying is:

1) don't bag a political/political-related Party (unless it's Scruby's pedestrian council), but picking on individuals *can* be ok (Bracksy/Scruby!!!)
2) try to keep the political topics car related
3) manners re Mrs Casper
