Default power steering pump

so mine has a leak. which obviously is quite bad. because i thought i'd just have a look at it this morning and there was no fluid in there (oh damn)

so i put some fluid in there but the following questions .

1. does this mean my rack is also dead because its been out of fluid for X long.

2. is it worth getting one from a wrecker/2nd hand.

3. is brand new the only way to go.

thanks.

1. I highly doubt it
2. fine if you're selling it
3. See q2

also, are you sure it's the pump and not one of the hoses?

well no im not. when i took it to get serviced last the mechanic said he wanted to put some new clamps on. so im assuming that its been ruled out and its the actual pump thats leaking.

i shall go investigate. thank you.

i had a look. and took a photo. its all tight. the leak/gush/weep seems to be coming from the lower bolt.

that being said. the above bolt is a bracket which i dont have attached to anything because i have extractors. and it lost its mount point (or i lost the bolt haha) and it was a bit loose. does this effect the seal of the pump res?

Yes I was told by a power steering place my pump hoses needed changing for a few hundred dollars. I discovered that all it was is a rubber o ring that seals where the the tup of the hose alloy coupling seals against the pump. The oring cost me 3 dollars two years back. It looks like this is the likely cause

Another vote for the o-ring. I had mine done recently. Happens after a while on AU's. Forgot how much it cost to fix mine, but it wasnt all that much. Had the p/s unit resprayed black while it was out.

But they don't have any instock and I'll get it tomorrow. Dads coming over tonight tho to have at look at it with me. But I'd much prefer to spend say $5. And find out it still leaks instead of 100+ and it still leak. Fair stoked fellas thanks again!!
