I think u just answered it yourself at the end there. The XR50 was FG version of the magnet.

Does the magnet have much of a history?

Thunder, whilst not having much of a history (pretty sure it came in with the VY or VZ) has had really, really good marketing over the years. Their market is young men and they have nailed the advertising to them. Ford would probably stuff it up and have a set of hands walking down the road : All I can remember from Ford was the UTE pulling women, being sort of a chick magnet but that was still pretty lame.

What ever happened to "fun" advertising...? Holden nailed it with the Commodore utes some years back.
How about this one...?

I never understood what the magnet badge even meant when I saw them on BA utes. If they have some sort of older history then I know nothing about it.

i've got one of the magnets, and it included leather seats, trim, steering wheel, gear knob, 18" alloys and i'm sure there's something else, but i think ford need to do something like this, holden have the thunder on sale again, and because they seem to not be advertising the mkII's? but if they do they need to think of something better than "magnet"
