Cool New focus on order

G'day G'day!

just received news today that my 18th birthday present is on order from City Ford, a new focus CL hatch, jeans blue, with the safety pack. i'm absolutely stoked! it should be delivered within the next few days

however, i have a few questions:
1. is there anything i can do about some fog lights? i like the idea of more lights and the improved look

2. i'm not interested in changing anything mechanically just yet, mainly because being a young male driver, the insurance would crucify me, but i am interested in getting some alloys which look good on the stock ride height, and some decent rubber

cheers
Uni/.

If you like the 17"s on the Focus Zetec, they're only $1000, which is a pretty good price. Plus they have that good factory integrated look, which I personally like.

Continental Sport Contact IIs are available in that size (205/50 R17) but are a bit pricey. Unfortunately Goodyear aren't doing the GS-D3 here in that size.

Thats sounds like a very wise & nice present from i presume your parents.

Another option you may wish to pursue is to get the Smooth pack before delivery. It includes alloy wheels, Cruise and Electric mirror's....

When i turned 18, I got a MkI Canary Yellow Escort

my parents looked at the smooth pack but got an excellent price for the base CL+safety so just went with it

the 17s from the zetec seemed like a good idea to me too, or perhaps the ST170 rims, but i suspect they wont look as good on the stock ride height due to the skinny spokes. zetec rims it is then i think i'll try to source some 2nd hand ones though.. im not exactly swimming in expendable cash

anyone got any idea about fog lights?

cheers

st170 rims are a differnt stud pattern so they wont fit, as for the fogs would you be looking at the factory ones or aftermarket?

Happy 18th what an awesome present. The ST170 rims won't fit on the new focus becuase the mk1 focus uses a 4 stub pattern while the mk2 uses a 5stud pattern.

The fog lights shouldn't be too hard to fit. On the Fiesta its a simple mater of buying the fog light an a switch, all the wiring is in place, But i could be wrong

www.tempetyres.com.au i will warn you though there's an equal amount of nice and disgusting rims on there stay on the good side of the fence lol, oh and pretty much any wheels you want will have to have the stud pattern modified, i was lucky enough to get mine straight through a lenso rep...

yeah we got plenty of advice from ford on the running in procedure, and i spoke to a friend of mine who is a peugot 205 GTi geek and race car driver... he was explaining to me that the best opportunity to seal rings is when the engine is under a constant load and accelerating, e.g. up hills, so gentle encouragement up hills is a good idea

having only been driving it for a day i'm struggling to keep the smile off my face. the fog lights are coming withing the next week or two, so i'll fire you folks an update when they're installed and good to go...

as for the wheels situation i've been talking to dad and he's keen to get the full or near full wear cycle out of these ones and then go out and buy a really decent set of alloys and some high quality rubber, which i am all for. less grip means less of a reason to do stupid things on my Ps :

as for the suspension i'm going to hold off. as part of the deal with Ford we get 1 year of free insurance so the non-factory modifications will be nil for some time. i am keen for a shock and spring change some time in the future, although im in no hurry, it handles like a baby, plenty of nice, safe understeer

conclusion: absolutely loving it

conclusion 2: beware of women in silver mercedes. they're absolutely incompetent behind the wheel. 2 nearly wiped me out within 5 minutes simply by not paying attention.

thanks for the advice etc, its very much appreciated

So true that's not even funny, they're even worse in the M-class "cars"

Welcome and congrats on your purchase.

Just a theory here, but maybe the "ladies" didn't see you because of the colour of the car. Wouldn't hurt driving with your headlights on as an experiment to see if other drivers are "picking you out from other cars".

im undecided at the moment. Hella also makes a kit which is easy to import from Europe. i'm going to give Ford a call this week and find out what the story is, as the wiring and correct switch is not in the base CL model.

whatever i end up doing i shall keep y'all posted
