Always freeze my bread and take out slices as I need it. My toaster has a thaw function, so does my microwave if I'm in a hurry for a sandwich, still taste's fresh.

My grandma used to freeze her bread. My grandpa and herself werent big sandwich people, but my counsins, siblings and myself were. So a few slices zapped in the microwave, couldnt tell the difference.
Dunno if its just an old person thing, but grandmas freezer was also set to kill. Staying overnight as a kid icecream after dinner she would also have to microwave it just to get it soft enough to scoop.

I can't stand defrosted frozen bread. Doesn't taste fresh to me at all. Maybe it's a psychological thing?

I’m with you. I can/will eat it from frozen, but prefer bread stored at room temperature or slightly cooled. It seems perverse in a country of such good food opportunities, to favour the indifferent palate. Note that I have seen matzo several years old, yet seeming no more or less edible.

Ok, I get whilst it was warm and we had humidity over the summer period that it's reasonable to expect the bread might go off, and sure, it's still humid here atm, but it's hardly warm! Went to have some toast today only to be greeted by my wholemeal grain bread having white spots over all over it. And its use by date was today .
where do ya store it?

I've been in this house just over 12 months now, and up until the start of last summer, I kept the bread on a shelf in the kitchen. Not in the cupboard just a shelf on the wall.

Since the bread was starting to go off, I moved it into the cupboard as it was a smidgen cooler but dark, figuring that it might help to keep the bread longer. Which it seemed to, by about a day.

Or just buy it fresh from the bakery (along with iced donuts) everyday.
Bread straight from the bakery last longer (bread bin remember them) than supermarket stuff but then we don't have humidity here much.

Pop it in the fridge then as a compromise. Will go well past the use by date.

A few challenges for that suggestion:
  • I don't eat a lot of bread so there's no way I'd go through a loaf each day
  • I don't really go near a shop most days, so I'd need to allow extra time to be able to effect that
  • I really like my wholemeal grain and I haven't found any local bakeries that make it

I loooove fresh bread, but it's just not practical for me.

Nor I, Just buy the donuts and pies, (much healthier)
My partners on low carb Keto, she buys Aldi low carb bread, really high grain, almost German black bread in looks last quite a few days unrefrigerated.
With seven bakeries in Wang alone wholemeal grain is easy to come by fresh here.

Why is it that dog owners can’t tell you they have a dog without telling you it’s a “rescue”. Is that better than just a second hand dog?

I hear you, but they’re also telling me they didn’t buy it from some dodgy puppy farm on Faceache, and that it might also show a bit of (mis)conduct associated with a highly stressful period in its life.

Well, some people consider them to be fridges on wheels, so white would be appropriate

Do they make them in stainless steel?

depends on the car,
if you happened to see an old Mazda Bongo van painted bright red most wouldnt give it a second glance.... 'damn more hippies moving in ....'
where as the same red on a 'stang always grabs the eye. We have a burnt orange one over here with matching wheels. Now the owner is a knob that you want to ignore but the car comes towards you its a drool session time

Here ya go danzvtil meet Mika defiantly not a "rescue imposter", she spent the first 12 weeks of her life being chained up, staved, kicked, punched, beaten/abused by a ethnic street gang out South Auckland, till police raided the place and Pit rescue got involved who a acquaintance was running. I said no but here we are nine years later with a ball, pinecone, stick or log retrieval machine who's also my best mate she has such a good nature makes you wonder what sort of mongrels (clue here) can treat a animal like that. She still has her moments were a loud noise will see her heading for a safe confined space. We were told she would have ended up as a bait dog for fighting so she's been very lucky apart from a shi#ty start to life..She's waiting here for a pinecone to be chucked which she will find even after dark.

Why is it that very few AFL players (and probs other codes, too, but I don't follow them) sing the national anthem when it's being sung?

Wouldn't it be great if people had pride in our national anthem? So much so that they were comfortable to outwardly sing along with it in public.

Dunno about AFL games 'cos I don't follow or understand it.

But there are a number of NRL players ( with ancestry ) who consider singing the National Anthem offensive to them. S***s me to tears as they take the money, the fame, the recognition, and the benefits and are still not satisfied.

Personally, I think that Advance Australia Fair should be restricted to international competition events, not domestic.
I am always envious of the NZers who give the Haka full throttle before a game, regardless of whatever ancestry.

Personally think the Haka is done to death here, you can be first or second loser in sport and they insist on doing it, most cringeworthy is Olympics/ Commonwealth games and a select few in the crowd launch into one even if athletes lose. Seems to be mostly ginger euros with a Ta moko sleeve tatt.

I'm with you, so overdone it's lost it's significance, especially when you have white players in the team doing it. Like the smoking ceremony and welcome to country.
Sure it has it's place and should be recognised, but every time someone opens a meeting?
