Default Focus LW2 Sync software update?

Hello all,

I have a late 2012 LW2 Titanium SEP with the Sony audio system and Sync.

Most of the time the Sync system works fine (radio, CD, nav, etc.), but quite often when I use the Sync controls to select a new item on my connected iPod, the entire Sync crashes (iPod disconnects, Bluetooth phone disconnects, Sync display goes blank) and restarts. On the second attempt, the Sync will usually select and play the chosen item just fine (using exactly the same navigation path to make the selection).

I reckon that this is the sort of bug that would be fixed with a software update. However, the Sync Owner Centre on ford.com.au says I have the latest Sync software. (In fact, it has said this since the day I picked up the car nearly a year ago - there has apparently NEVER been a Sync update for my car.)

Has anyone ever received a Sync update by download from the Sync Owner Centre on ford.com.au?

Has anyone ever received a Sync update via the dealer?

Thanks.

There was an update released which I believe covered navigation and sync issues but they pulled it when it was causing other issues. As of about 4 weeks ago Ford advised that it still isn't ready. Not sure I have heard of your issue, certainly never experienced anything like that.

If you check the Sync update page its just basically a picture saying there is no updates.
Ever since i've registered on the site its been the same.

Being in Australia I doubt their in any rush to update our systems, even when they really
need a good update.
Sync is a great system, don't get me wrong. It just would be nicer if we got everything
the European/American Focus's have. E.g. AppLink & frequent updates.

Why does everyone forget Australia?

What version do you have currently?

Mine was in for a service yesterday and they "updated sync".

Not sure which version I had before. I'm sure I wrote that down somewhere, but it did already have applink, not that anything useful uses it.

It's definitely a different version to the one in my friends LW2, but their trip meter LCD is different too. (My gear selection is in orange, theirs is just a reverse contrast blue square)

Mine has had one update since I purchased it (april this year) and that was mainly to apply the emergency assist aswell as a couple of other things.
In the UK ive seen a few cars updated and instead of showing average speed on the trip computer it shows the range. Dunno what else was included in it though. I just had a service and no one mentioned it.

Still waiting for my update, as of August or thereabouts (15K service) they said they had pulled it because of issues. In saying that I am not seeing problems others are talking about, only bug I have is sometimes when returning from a Bluetooth phone call or returning to radio after playing from USB a random radio station is selected, usually Hope1032 for some reason, not even in memory, at first I thought it was a message from god, but I'm pretty sure he gave up on me years ago.

When it works, Sync is great. However, I have some real problems with mine. Every so often, it doesn't recognise the ipod attached via usb or the phone via Bluetooth. It will only play the radio. According to the Ford help, I have to turn the car off, lock it and leave it for a minute or so then start again. Not hugely practical.

The Satnav is awful. 3 times I have used it, once it got me to the door, once it took me a couple of kms away and told me I was there. The third time I had passed the place by at least 1 km and it wanted me to keep going.

Thanks Pajoda, glad to know it's not just me, i even deleted all radio stations except Triple M just to try and stop it changing to Hope1032. Now i just have all my music on USB and don't bother with the radio, wish FORD would fix the issue though, but hey it's Australia right no fixes here.

Mine was doing the same - went to Jefferson Ford Mentone and they knew about this issue.
Did some sort of flash/update - March this year - and been fine since.

Ford have updated the SYNC support page - the specs mention it now includes the Ford Applink to support the likes of Spotify, Text notifications and more however I can no longer find the Updates page. It looks like it is compatible with the LW2 Focus.

There's a System Updates section which provides a screenshot of the updates area however it's nowhere to be found.

https://www.ford.com.au/owner/sync-s...74600583&v=101

Pretty sloppy work by Ford - looks like they are half way through updating the site. Anyone have any luck finding the update?

The update site shows up for me, with five steps to go through for downloading the update. Then there are links to Installing Software and then reporting a successful installation. I haven't tried it as I don't seem to be having problems with my Sport model.

No sync updates here, and as I don't like hope 1032, I've stopped using the "radio" in my focus. Fortunately the usb works flawlessly along with all phone (galaxy s3) features. Still ****ed though that Ford create a web page saying check here for updates when there's been no updates for Australia and people complaining about the same issue!! Yes Ford that extra exclamation mark was for you and your **** poor software testing, I work in IT (software testing) and this level of effort is a FAIL!

Fully agree. I tried for a couple of months to update SYNC on my 2013 Kuga with no success. Ford help people tried very hard but were let down by their IT people.

There doesn't appear to be any new update available.

Ford's site shows my car as being up to date with last update on 10/12/2012, which happens to be its build date.

If you have an owners login, you can check your car with the link below.

Check to see whether TA is disabled under audio settings (or I think you can quickly get to this via the "Traffic" button).

I found when TA was enabled, my radio would default to Hope.

I can see the five steps as well through the Dashboard, Sync Support and then System Updates - none of the links work for me and have tried several browsers. Do you have a link to share to the page you are looking at?

If you ask me they are getting the content ready on the site before launching the update. If that's the case, pretty poor user experience.

Just tried it again. It is not working for me now. Was using Google web browser.

Ford USA is up to sync 3i think so why would sync in Australia get updated. I wish it would as well but I am resigned to it never getting an update. From what I have read sync is a Microsoft product and sync 3 is made by a BlackBerry related company on behalf of ford.

So the question I have is, if anyone was able to download the update, were you able to apply the update to the car? After giving up trying to get my Mac to work I used my work Windows machine to download to a USB drive and then tried to get the update to install but wasn't successful in doing so.

I couldn't get the instructions to show up on the Ford website so I kinda winged it, tried running "Install SYNC Applications" or whatever the menu actually is but it just came back as having no files on the root of the drive. Tried 2 separate USB drives (a 32gb and a 2gb), formatted them with both FAT32 and FAT16 and still didn't get anywhere.

I guess if anyone can shed their own experiences it would be greatly appreciated.

If it is all too hard ask Ford to do it next service (assuming they service your car).

I am able to download the update but cannot get the instructions. I ended up googling and got the instructions.

Following the instructions but it doesn't work. Sync kept saying that the update files are not in the root directory which they are.

I googled again and some people said that usb must be in fat32 format which it was. I tried another usb but still doesn't work.

I have the same problem.

My Sport Diesel is going in for a 1 year/15K service this week and I've told them I want them to update the software as well.

Well Ford can't seem to do it either.

They weren't aware of any updates until I asked them to try it out.

I posted on Ford Facebook page and they asked me for my contact details. Someone from Ford contacted me via phone yesterday to confirm details. The guy said he would investigate and call me back in a day or two.

Will update when I get an update from Ford.

I tried updating a few weeks ago with no luck. And now looks like the sync part of the website is down. Let me know if you hear anything.

Have not heard from Ford at all. I don't think they have a clue - at least the local Ford company has no idea, I think.

After 1.5 months, Ford finally come up with a resolution. Wait.... <drum rolls>

Ford said that there is actually no Sync update available for your vehicle. The website incorrectly showed an update is available. They will fix the website.

So, there you go. I didn't want to give them a hard time as I was very busy with work. Seriously, if there is no update, the car should have said to me that I already have the latest installed instead of saying not able to find the file.

I still think that they have no clue. Said...
