Default Working a 4 litre head and what cam to go with it?

I plan to fit a 4 litre head to my 3.9 in my ea soonish ( Just got a eb head from Gubas at a nice price, cheers mate ), is it a str8 bolt on affair? im pretty sure it is...

I have some crow valve springs ( 125lbs ) to put on it and im thinking bout some porting and a shaving ( 40thou? ) for higher compression,
How much do you guys recommend i go with the shaving on the head?
And im wanting to get a wade cam, 977b or maybe 1521 cause i will have the better springs but i hear the 1521 i might need chip for ecu?
Cars a stock manual with extractors and exhaust atm........
Cheers lads

40 thou is a bit much to take off the head. 977 is a bigger cam iirc and mr4.0 was running it and had to downgrade because it needs a ECU, chip isnt good enough.

The work my head got.

- Acid dip
- Slight decking / cleanup
- New exhaust seats
- Re-seated valves. Intake and exhaust. 3mm
- Ported exhaust

Flows good for 400HP. Simiar figures compared to JMM race series head, but at a 1/3 of the cost. Work done in Geelong at Johnny Dyno Engines. Cost me $550.

The head I bought for $60 off some dude, who originally bought it off you Dave, but never used it :P

Correct me if i am wrong but arnt the 3.9 pistons diched more than an ef 4.0 ? If i am right on this (and im not sure) then you would need to take a fair bit of the head due to the larger combustion chamber on the 4.0 head.
Also i have a 977b in my ef it is dead stock other than slight head work and the cam and it runs perfectly well with the stock ecu. if your only in oakley your welcome to come and have a listen and a ride in it im over in narre.

Thanks for the offer matey, i might take you up on that soon,
I actually just bought a eb2 bottom end of gubas aswell ( matching bottom end to the head i got ) that i will pick up soon, im thinking of now just rebuilding a fresh motor and dropping the whole lot in, with what i want to do with the head i dont think the 3.9 bottom end will hold up for long, lol
Cheers

hahaa so true. this cam is way too big for me. needs better tuning, and more comp. then it would be a weapon. so until saturday (when newcam goes in. a lot smaller one) yes, i will be beaten by kids on push bikes, lol! :togo:

Well lads im still tossing up between turbo and n/a whilst im on the rebuild mission,
I have always wanted n/a with the 6 throttle body setup and maybe power to 6500-7000rpm? lol
But theres more potential for making power with turbo....
Maybe its time for a poll?

It all seriousness i dont know what im after yet as i havent had much advice at this point but i think i will get the head done first and choose a cam from there according to whats been done to the head...
