Default au fan high or nothing

Hello gents, one day my ac fan decided to stay on even though ignition was turned off, bought another fan speed controller and plugged it in, it now works as normal except the ac fans only turn on when it is switched to high, another other speed eg low to 9 and the fan turns off.

Have been browsing google looking for the answer but cant seem to find it.

Hi Mate,
Are you sure the fan controller you replaced it with is for a climate control type unit?
Was the replacement part new?

-Andrew.

Hi Andrew, I got it out of a Fairmont with climate control that was being wrecked.

The transistor on the back did look corroded but it still works properly except only works on high now.

Not sure if I need a new transistor on it or if the old fan controller was broken.

I remember years ago my dads nc lane with climate control had the same prob that you had originally.
The fan would stay on. It was a short cct transistor and i managed to replace just the tranny and fixed it.
Im not sure if the au might have a tranny for speed control up to no. 9 and a relay in parallel for flat out ( speed no. 10).

If you can read the transistor part number we can then identify the collector and emitter and see if it has a dead short or open cct or indeed if it has a relay in circuit?

Ok.
Can you see any components on the speed control unit beside the transistor?
If there is a relay for high speed , it may be mounted there or else where.
Possibly the used one you got has an open cct transistor and there is a relay for speed 10?

What part no is the transistor?
Any chance of a pic of the speed control unit?
