Lightbulb 2nd generation Nissan Leaf to be unveiled this week

Details are to be released from 6th September and I am keen to see what the new model will offer. I drove several hundred kilometers in the previous model and am familiar with the car. The two biggest issues with the previous car (not including the vomit inducing styling) was the high price of the car and low range per charge. The second generation model is rumoured to have improved both of these issues.

Forget the Tesla - the Nissan Leaf has been the top selling electric car.

A more 'normal' looking car.

https://www.motoring.com.au/nissan-r...c-leaf-108760/

As the 1st generation could only achieve half of the claimed 250km range, the new 2nd generation should be able to almost 200km on one charge (400km claimed range for new model).

Australian prices and specifications not yet announced.

Not as big a lemon as the Tesla. When was the last time a Nissan Leaf was in the news due to problems?

I went to an EV drive day a while back and of the ones we got to have a go of I'd say the 'old' leaf was the pick of them.
I was still glad to drive my ICE home at he end of it all though.

My brother has an EV.
The range is extremely poor, top speed is woeful, it bottoms out on even mild potholes, and is difficult to steer. Plus he gets wet if it rains

From what ive read As the car ages the range reduces significantly.
I'm not surprised by this, very similar to my Ryobi battery drill.

These are the corners Elon wants cut to make a profit

https://www.caradvice.com.au/882309/...-parts-fitted/

Owners of the Tesla Model Y have discovered home improvement items used to secure the cooling system.

Electric vehicle specialist Tesla has been accused of cutting corners and using parts similar to those found in a hardware store, as it ramped up production to meet demand earlier this year.

Owners of the Tesla Model Y SUV have posted images of their vehicles on an online forum showing what appears to be mouldings used in home building materials that have been fitted to their cars.

As reported by US website The Drive, the images show roughly-cut wooden pieces used to secure a heat exchange unit – part of the Tesla's cooling system – while other images show various types of plastics.

It appears the items are there to protect the unit from steel strapping, presumably being used to help secure the part, found below the luggage area under the front bonnet.

The forum users suggested the items may have been purchased from Home Depot – akin to our local Bunnings.

In June, Tesla CEO Elon Musk wrote an email to company employees encouraging them to "go all out" before the end of the second quarter of 2020.

Only a few days prior, the American electric car company had placed last in a US study of car quality. The J.D. Power survey found, on average, Tesla vehicles experienced two-and-a-half problems within the first 90 days after delivery.

The old leaf had a lot of people upset with the battery performance, so much so that there was a $10k battery replacement offer by Nissan under certain circumstances.

Not bad considering before and during this battery replacement offer there were owners apparently being stung between $20-30k for a replacement battery

The new one should be much better hopefully.

Not sure why people want to jump on the hate wagon, Nissan at least had the nuts and foresight to get in and start getting real world experience.

If you bought one and you are unhappy then you are entitled to that, but to knock it and never have driven or owned one seems a bit odd.

If workplaces/gov gave bigger incentives id daily one no worries.

I did hundreds of kilometers in the i-Miev and Leaf when they arrived in Australia. I thought both cars were okay but were still not viable alternatives to fuel powered vehicles. That so many people have experienced problems with EVs is no surprise to me.

Horses for courses, they are not applicable to all situations yet but I dont think that is hidden either.

Would it matter? Again who buys an EV with the primary focus being R&H? Sure its an important function of the vehicle but if EV's are not a classic example of your A-B car then I dont know what is.

And what doesnt?

I've had my eye on the i-Miev for a while, they can be had for $ low teens now.

Being so small and light, I wonder what a battery replacement would cost either a uprated direct replacement or something bespoke that can be put together with locally sourced products.
