Default Who has Driven a Turbo Import?

This is a question for the 87 to 98 Ford Owners

1995 Nissan 200 SX 220 rwkw's 5 Speed Manual

I was running around in my mates SX today and OH MY GOD I didn't know they were so fast - very impressed.

Who else has driven an import? and what RWKW's did they have and were you impressed?

Dunno the power figure, but i've driven a couple of R33's GTS-T's... all manual, and all very good fun

Handling and braking were very good, but power was stupid, as soon as they hit boost in first they'd lose traction... Bit too cramped for my frame though unfortunately, or fortunately, as i really do need my license.

driven a few 180-200rwkw R33's and a 160rwkw R32. Fantastic breaks, and gear boxes, the power delivery isn't anything to write home about. The R33's arent too bad but my god the R32. Who the hell wants to down shift to 2nd at 70 if you want 1/2 decent acceleration (4th should do)??

Once they are hotted up there is no doubt they can absolutly hammer.

even my mates stocko wrx is insane compared to a e series car.

after mrgt1981 drove it he was shaking lol :P

I jumped from a modded manual EF XR6 (164kw) into a stock auto Twin Turbo Soarer (206kw) and the power difference was unbelievable.

Just had it dynoed today @ 207.6rwkw/576NM torque with only the following mods:
- Cat-back exhuast
- FMIC
- Pod

I have mates with TT soarers that have pushed 250rwkw on STOCK turbos, fuel pump & injectors!! Remembering that all this gear is now 15 years old, go the 1JZ crazy tuning potential

+ they have the sexy interior

i have to say the power from a turbo silvi ( not sure wat yr) is unbelivable. the first time i drove one ( on my L's) i was chirping the wheels in 1st to 2nd. they are quite a quick car. but the same can be said from and eseies turbo. you have to compare apples to apples, not orange's.. but the inport had quite better acceleration and turning as well as tighter gear changes.

yeah mates 180 sx drifter is mad, thanx to a rb20 conversion so its hardly stock tho, but having driven my EL turbo now id hav to say that e series turbos can more than hold there own, and if your gona compare id say compare na imports to na e series to be fair, but yeah they got sum scary power for 2-3 ltrs

I think the weight and balance is the main difference. After being in my mates 180SX (with "only" 110rwkw) they sure do surprise.

My EL Ghia had 138rwkw, but it was a lard as$. Never got around to seeing how they fared together. No doubt he would have smashed me off the line, but rolling start I am not to sure.

Many of mates have turbo imported cars, its mainly there power to weight ratio and the whole "boost" sensation.
Got a mate of mine to drive my car (drives a 220rwkw R31 - Drift car) and said the difference was unbeleivable. There was no "boost sensation" but the power was there the whole time, along with torque . He loved it, i felt so happy in the pants lol

One of my mates had an R33 Skyline turbo and it was damn quick. I didn't drive it but as a passenger, I was impressed. Then he wrote it off :(

i owned a mr2 turbo.......... wound up the boost.........13.2........handling is something else, grip is the same, i do miss that car. gave it up for a eb xr8 manual.....:s

Been in a few of them, Old mans XR6T wiped the floor with em all though :P I got a TRX Bluebird with a CA18DET in it as me and my dads project, plans to have around 240rwkw in a 1000kg car That will be hella fun.

thats my point, turbo 4ls are rite up there with the best. a skyline gtst usualy puts down about 120-150 rwkw and weighs bout 1600kg. xr6t runs 180-190 rwkw and weighs bout 1750kg or so. id back the xr6

Yep its amazing the features they have for such an old car, but then again these cars were $100k+ new.

My TT's a 1993 model and has all the above + Traction Control, Shake'n'bake mirrors (shakes snow and water off then heats the mirror to get rid of fog, snow etc), 8 way electric seats, LCD rearview mirror....Factory features are mad

Then little extras like no ugly aerials as the aerial is inside the rear windscreen, great cars if anyone wants to upgrade. Only annoying thing is they have a sensor on every single part and it will tell you if your drivers side parker globes blown or your handbrake fluid level is low for example, except it flashes this up in Japanese so i keep my error translation form in the glovebox :

My old man has a 91 TT Soarer runnin 300+kw, pulls low 11's on the strip, anything under 100km there is no such thing a traction. Scary sort of power from them

well wen i took my 180 sx 4 the first thrash i was very suprised with the way it went with the rb20 in pushin 153rwkws (yes i sed rb20 instead of the little ca18 lol) now its got coil overs and handles sweet also slides great yes this is my drift car lol


imports r a total different kettle of fish lol lots of good aftermarket bolt on parts

I've driven a few 'imports' in my time, yes they go ok but at the end of the day if i came off the road, or got hit, i'd rather be in a Falcon any day of the week.

I guess it depends what type of 'import' your talking about.

Sure an 80's style MR2 or siliva/180sx wouldn't fair too well in a crash, but then again falcons of the same era (XF's) are apparently one of the worse cars to have a crash in.

A mid 1990's Aristo, Soarer, R33/R34 Skyline etc are well built and have many more standard safety features than ED/EF/EL's, so im not too sure a falcon would be the better car to be in. Plus with more precise steering, better brakes and options like traction/stability control you will find it easier to avoid a crash. Thats my opinion after owning both anyway.

Ive driven my mates 2001 S15 200sx. 6pd manual. about 190rwkw+. not a major amount of power but considering the lighter weight than a falcon, she bloody moves. I love driving it. Probably do a low 14-high 13. Like I said nothing spesh but still decent.

I Haven't driven one... And I dont want to either... I'm afraid I might like it too much!! :P

I do like the V8 Lexus Soarers though... The SC400 I think they are called?

What I wouldn't do for one of those...
