Default intermitant EA fault

Have had a few ideas given to me of the fault so I thought I would post it on the forum to see what happens.
Mostly on a hot day after driving the EA beast around, then parking up to go to shop or pick the kids up at school the dame thing won't restart, the motor just keeps turning over but no start. whats even more annoying is you call the RACV and when they turn up, they tell you to turn the key and the dame thing starts straight away, I think the EA thinks it's a human. Has any one else had this problem. Ive been told that it may be the modulator on the side of the distrubutor, they reckon a change over would be around $300. Anyone out there with any clues??

Next time turn the key to the on position and listen for the fuel pump. If you don't hear it try to start the car, if it doesnt start yoiur pump will be on its last legs. If you do hear it and the car doesn't start it won't be the pump but you will have elimenated a problem.

I had a pump fail on me one time intermittentally the thing just wouldnt go which is what they do sometimes. once it went it would go all day. and hey hey it was worse on warmer days, perhaps the fuel in the tank was a bit warmer affecting it i dunno.

I paid $50something from repco, there's a few different ones out there and this happened to be the cheapest one, it lasted 3 months then died so I bought the most expensive one and it's still going.

Did the car misbehave at all before you turned the motor off? I've found the car will either run rough and want to stall a few times before the module actually dies, and when it does you can still usually crank it and it'll fire once or twice a few times before completely packing it in.

You should try and check for spark next time it happens, if you're not getting spark more than likely it is the module, if there's spark there's a fault elsewhere.

I agree with Karl, listen for the Fuel pump to prime. If it doesnt make noise and the car doesnt start, its your pump.

YES, YES, YES. I have.
This is exactly what happened to me. I needed a new ignition coil and distributor. $385 including install. I was frickin ****ed.

I had to stop on the side of the Bruce Highway and it took RACQ a frickin hour to get there, he sprayed some s*** on the distributor and some other little grey box behind my tennis racquet and told me to turn it over. It started. The thing is though, it had about 75 minutes to cool down. It did the same thing again about 20kms up the highway and that's when I had to get the POS towed.
