Default OBD2 Car Thieft

Hey!

S'up?

I've just seen a VERY scary vid on YouTube that has ex-crims who showed how the other crims use the Focus's OBD2 Port to steal you car! What they do is, smash the window, plug in a portable Smart Key Programmer into the OBD2 port, download ALL the car's info, program a blank key that you can VERY easily buy on eBay. Then they use their key to unlock the doors, start the car and drive off!

I was just wondering, does anyone know if Ford has produced an Anti-theft OBD2 kit, that moves the OBD2 port to the plastic panel at the side of the dash near the door? So that the OBD2 port accessed without opening the door? Thereby stopping the crims!

I know the many other car manufacturers have produced similar Anti-Theft kits that have resulted in significant drop car theft rates!

Thanks!

Not much point in that - smash window, and use interior handle to open door ends up in the same result.

The Focus and many other cars have deadlocks fitted so the doors can't be opened from the inside! That's why many manufacturers are now providing a kit the moves the OBD2 port to the side dash plastic panel so the it can't be accessed with the doors closed!

I've seen that happen to a cpl of focus RS that were watched by security cameras. Alarm screams for a little while the use the code reader and away they go. There is an obd2 port relocation kit available in the UK and a lot of people have gone that way as for some reason focus ST/RS are highly desirable

Ah, that's a good thing then.

These scumbags doing it with a cheap OBDII reader and our $5400 scan tool struggles with programming keys for legitimate purposes

The crims have theirs modified by hackers so that they have NO problems cloning smart keys for our cars!

I've only seen it for the MK2 focus but nothing for MK3 as yet but I'd imagine it won't be long. That said focus isn't as desirable here as it is in Europe and really it's only ST/RS that people want.

You said you have a 2014 focus that's a MK3 not a MK2.
