Default Am I being had?

Gday all. I was out looking at a Focus 06 Zetec today and upon opening the bonnet was greeted with what appeared to be an oil / grease like substance on the metal parts within the engine bay. The dealer told me this was rust proofing but it definitely looked foreign to me. Could this be the truth?

Regards

Sometimes the car yards spray a silicon spray on almost everything under the hood, it gives it a very new look this might be what it is.....

Except it was a brown colour, very similar to oil. What I really want to know is does this come standard on Ford Focus' or is this something the dealer may have put on to hide something. He told me this is Ford rustproofing.

Relax dude,

not all salesmen are lying POS.

It is indeed rustproofing.

Do you think that if they were truely trying to hide something they would spray a thick brown goo all around the engine bay?? :

Not standard. Is it in blobs or uniform coverage

And I think I'm right in saying, this would not remain on the car once it is delivered to you.
Cleaning up the engine is one of the things the dealer does for their "Dealer Delivery" fee
