Default Replacement keys/remotes?

Hello there,

On monday I picked up my 2002 AUIII wagon. However, it only came with one key/remote.

I would really like a second one and am curious as to what the easiest/cheapest way to go about it is? My last car was an 89 camry, getting a second (or twentieth) key was a simple affair, but I have no idea what to do in this case.

Cheers in advance

Matt.

Buy your remote of Ebay ($40 or so) and reprogram it , Keys you can buy uncut from Ebay- Not sure how you program those suckers though ...

Cheers
Daniel

you need to use a scantool to do it if you only have one key if you get ford to do it go get a loan first but some mechanics and locksmiths can do it cheaper

Just use your single key , but get another remote so if you lose the key , you can sit in your car still

Har har :P

Hopefully my key doesn't go missing. I don't suppose you (or anyone else) knows what it would cost if that happned? I have kids, who pick things up and put them in places that can never be found. I need to know how much money to keep in my back pocket for WHEN the key goes missing. :P

Key cut and programmed are about $110.00. Just ring around for some descent locksmiths and haggle. Remotes on ebay the cheapest

if you loose it and don't have a spare factor in the tow truck as well. and if you get towed into ford service make sure the 50s in your wallet aren't alone they will need company to get you going again. they can smell desperation

Last week I had a second key supplied & cut here in melbourne for $100. The locksmith explained to me that the second key is a CLONE of the key (same ID as the key i had). This meant that i would not be able to program a third or four key to the car as per the Ford owners manual. Ford quoted me $280 to have a new key supplied and programed to the car.

$100 I could swallow, slowly and with a large glass of ale. I might go with the preventative route, rather than find myself on the tow truck to the nearest Ford dealer. I'll see how finances pan out over the next week.

Cheers lads/ladies

Matt.

I've got a few remotes on my ebay watch list. They're all around the $30 mark, which is A-OK. It seems you can get blank keys from ebay too, for around the $80 mark.
I'll check out a couple of key cutters and see what it'll cost for them to cut a blank and do whatever else they need to do for it to fit my car.
I don't care if it's a clone of the original, I don't intend on having more than two keys.

Cheers

$600 and a three to four hour wait for new ignition barrel, door lock and two key sets through Ford Oz, if you went for the worst case scenario.

I won't go into the towage bit...

I'm with RACQ, so I get 10km free towing in any direction. I had a tow of 23km once and they didn't bill me ;)

$600 is a fair bit to lose though. Makes sense to spend $100 now.
