Default Recommend me a Tuner

Hi all,

Well at the rate i am going with getting everything ready for the V8 conversion I won't be there until mid next year (due to uni and going overseas) therefore I think I will bite the bullet and get it tuned as is. I will then be able to use the flash tuner when converting it to V8. This will cost more but i figure I would be better off enjoying the 6 once tuned until the V8 goes in.

Now I have more or less decided to go with a flash tuner however, I would like to preferably go through someone who has tuned AU 6's previously. So if someone could recommend somewhere good that is not 6 hours from Frankston or give any other advice it would be appreciated.

I am assuming that the cost will be $1400-1500 including tune and flash tuner box.

Cheers, Rhys

If you're in Frankston, check out the guys at Pit Lane Performance - they are a site sponsor, and probably not too far from you!

Yeah i was thinking about them. However, when i spoke to him a long long time ago he was mainly doing B series cars. Would certainly be interested to hear from anyone who has been there at all.

Pit Lane have serviced and maintained both my Fords and can't fault them in quality and service, they will be doing my tune once the TS is ready to go.
Plus Mick is a passionate guy when it comes to Fords.

+1 for Pit Lane, Mick is magic tuning with a flash tune and will treat your car like it's his own

Well thanks for the feedback everyone. I have spoken to mick about 12 months ago and found he knew his stuff really well. I am glad to hear that others have had dealings with him as i would expect from my short chat with him. So i know where i am heading tomorrow morning.

Cheers, Rhys

Just a quick question. Should i need to replace the thermostat or the plugs before getting a tune or should it be ok with the standard ones?? Also, should i expect any costs on or above the SCT flash tuner and the tune itself which will be approx $1500??

Was that you that dropped into work today, ifso you should have said who you were, was a little hectic in the shop this morning.

Yes you should have your car tuned in the best mechanical condition you can put it in, that means good plugs, clean air and fuel filters, fresh engine oil etc, you don't want to have any of these items holding you back from a good result.
If these things are all good there should be no extra costs involved in tuning unless something is holding the car back and then it should be discussed with you before rectifying/replacing, so you are aware of all costs

Yeah no probs, it should be all sweet i think but then who knows. It only has 90,000kms and the starter motor needs replacing so could be other things. You did look kinda busy so i didn't want to bother you too much. I'll pop by sometime this week and sort out a time with you guys to do it.

Cheers, Rhys

No worries Rhys

probably a good idea to get the starter sorted as the car would be stopped and started a heap of times during tuning.
It maybe wise to get your mechanic to do a full service and tune on the car with a good check over to make sure all is good, you don't want anything breaking while on the dyno, although at that mileage you would not expect any mechanicals issues that would fail on the dyno.
If you don't have a mechanic we can do this for you also.

Yeah i am hoping to do the oil/filter this weekend. Did it about 5000kms ago. Will put new plugs in too and maybe new leads but they should be fine. I generally do as much as i can, what i can't i get Mick and Paul around the corner at pro street to do for me. The starter motor is ok but it is grabbing a little once started. I may do it this weekend to if i have time.
