Another new member

Greetings all.

Been lurking for a long while here, reading threads and learning from others mistakes. :}

Now that I have a new BA MKII XR8 ute auto (Silhouette with Premium ICC, dual zone climate, XR Sports leather seats & Premium audio) I thought I'd better introduce myself, register on here and say ''G'Day!"

Fell inlove with the ute the first time I saw it (First ute I've ever owned) bonus was the luxo interior. (Dual zone climate keeps the wife quiet and happy!)

Few little problems, at 800km the oil filter started leaking (Was not fitted properly, apparently) exhaust is rather quiet (I'm used to the V-8 growl from my old XB GT 2 door)

Now at 1,200km I've opened her up a bit on the road (Over 3,000 rpm now) I'm noticing that the fly by wire throttle is not consistent. Sometimes it goes like an animal (Like it should) other times it feels like there is only 1/4 throttle right through the rev range.

Plus it is now sucking down the PULP (BP Ultimate) like it's going out of style, surging while at highway speeds and smells VERY rich at idle.

I've reset the ECU, no go. still sucking down fuel and smelling very rich.

Also I notice that if I back off from highway speeds, pull up at a set of lights, there is a VERY strong smell of oil (Not sure if it's engine or trans) that wafts through the air con. I can't find any leaks, so not sure what it is (PCV maybe?)

Apart from those little problems I love the ute! Debadged already, polished, very dark (Limo) tint on it, looking at some nice black 19" wheels to complete the package.

Welcome mate a newbie here myself but it seems like a good forum

A mate of mine has also got an BA XR8 and his fuel economy took about 8000km before it started getting consistant he now averages around the 14's around town.

My XR6T also varies around high 13's to low 15's depending on how heavy my right foot is on the day its only got 3500k's on it.

Hope you the smell sorted I'd get it back to the dealer and get them to sort it

Welcome aboard. I used to have a BA XR8 ute, fuel economy took awhile to settle down. First 2000k was using 17L per 100km, averaged at 40000kms around 14.8 city driving lead footed. Stick a cats back dual 2.5 inch system with single sports cat per piping and it sounds awesome. Sort of miss mine. :

I own(from new) an AU XR8 Series111. It's had some problems too. All Minor bar a rear main oil leak.. Hope Ford get onto ya car and iron out ya query's mate..

Thanks all, beside the little problems I am very happy with the beast. :}

A bugger to keep clean (Washed it, went inside for a cold one, came outside and it was dirty again! Grrrr!) Apart from that, will be making some sub boxs for a nicer sound (The upgraded stereo does not cut it)

Looking at fitting a complete difilippo system to it plus getting an edit. (Hopefully that will make the throttle more predictable.)

I shall bring the beast out for the Summernats in Canberra, hopping to meet up with the Canberra crew.
