Hello All,
The throttle cable on the Series 1 wagon seems to have quite a lot of slack in it. I can't see any way of adjustment. Is there? How much slack is it meant to have? I looked under the intake pipage but couldn't see an adjuster nut and I don't want to take the whole thing off if it's not under there anyway! Is there a way of adjustment at the pedal perhaps? As always, your help is greatly appreciated. GK |

Not adjustable.
You can temp fix the problem by adding a sort of spacer at the accelerator pedal, but a new cable is what you should do. I think no slack is wanted, it makes for sluggish response, and you dont get full open throttle either.

I agree with your comment about sluggish performance, I want more of a crisp response, especially at take off. GK |

Even the EA was not adjustable, the only cable adjustable was the cruise cable, but since the ef/el even that doesnt exist anymore.

The cable should be tight - replace it with a new one.

when you mean slack? Do you mean when you press the accelerator pedal the butterfly inside the throttle body doesn't respond or are you talking about how loose the black section of the cable is over the rocker cover? It has to have a certain amount of travel in the cable to allow for engine movement..

I've never replaced a cable for a car before, plenty of motorbikes over the years though. GK |

my throttle cable on my AU1 is also slack and i asked my mechanic should it be tightened and all he did was get me to put my foot flat on the accelerator and he was standing at the front of the car with the bonnet up and felt to see if the throttle was in the fully open position with my foot flat. obviously the car shouldn't be running whilst doing this but if ur foot is flat and the throttle is completely open he said it is fine, only need to be adjusted if the throttle doesn't open completely when ur foot is to the floor

I replaced it this afternoon. Took a while working out how to do it all, but now it's installed, the car has much crisper throttle response. I noticed it straight away!
