Default looking at buying MKIII corty

Gday guys..

well my boss has offered me a very nice TC cortina... 80,000 miles and always garaged... He wants around 4,000 for it...

First off, is this a good price??

Also I know absolutely nothing about these cars, I just like the look and I've been looking at rebuilding an older car (was looking at XA XB's) but this car is immaculate... Its a 3.3L manual...

Now what is the go with these? What engines are people putting in? Basically I just need a run down of what I could make of this car... I might just make it a strip only car... maybe I'll want it streetable, but not sure yet..

Any info would be great guys.. Oh and also what are some things to look for when inspecting the car?

If you are looking at it for a project car my opinion is that 4K is too high, you can pick them up in reasonable condition for around 2k. Your boss would be better off to drop a blanket over it, keep it maintained and get it out again in 20 years time and then it will likely fetch some pretty good coin! +

ok.. I might have some haggling to do then :P

I just want to start with a good body, this one goes to the same panel beater each year and gets every bit of rust cut out of it so I know its virtually rust free..

Thanks for the help though mate, what would be a reasonable price?

Why would it need the rust cut out of it every year, once it is fixed properly the rust is gone the last time I had rust fixed in my Xb was back in about 1992...and there is still not a scrap to be found, just in the process of a back to bare metal respray and have found no rust...

It is probably full of bog the way you are talking, bog over the rust every 12 months when it pushes throught the bog again.

if its a 3.3 manual that means its a 250 crossflow 4 speed

should be a decent quick car.. put about 500 to 1000 dollars into the motor and its like a weapon! ( camshaft, exhaust carby etc./)

250 crossflow is 4.1, 3.3 means it's a 200ci.

BTW one of the fastest Cortina's in the country is a 3.3 turbo.

You may want to make some enquires to vicoads before buying it, iirc they have canned V8 conversions in cortina and capris, they only way to get one is buy it already converted/engineered.
