Question Escort 2.0 Cams

Hi!

Just after some info about what cams everyone are using for their 2 litres. Obviously Kent Cams comes to mind but I would like to have it installed by Jan if possible (so something in Aus would be preferred)

I have a 2 litre escort with twin 45's, electronic ignition, ported and polished head and oversized valves, extractors etc (with more work to come). Am after a cam suited for a tough street car (and as lumpy as possible ;) )

I went for a Watson (many years ago - can you still get them?) I specified an "English" MkII RS grind but with higher lift. Works a treat. Idles nice enough at 900-1,000RPM, but alas no vacuum with the Webers, so had to install a tank. It runs to 7000RPM without let up.

Doesn't matter how big a cam you go for, remember a few golden rules on pintos
1 min compression ratio with long overlap cam 10.5:1
2 pinto respond better to lift than duration
3 the head set up and valve length will effect overall lift, as depending on valve length rocker ratio will vary between 1.4:1 up to 1.7:1, the shorter the valve the greater the rocker ratio and hence
In saying that camteck in Sydney sell a good range of cams

Ps don't forget changing a cam also means a re graph of the dissy and re. Dyno and set of the carbs

4 fit new cam followers

Camchoice - are you looking for bottom end, mid range or top end power, what is your realistic max rpm?

In my opinion a Crow 26661 would be a good start for a locally produced item, found them to be a reasonable eccentric grind billet camshaft, however in my experience they can be a bit noisy - I put it down to the fast ramp angles.

Hi, many years ago I stupidly removed what I belived was the standard cam from my early77 2lt manual coupe. This revved out all day, would stand still (no linelock here) & spin 205 tyres up to & in 4th on dry bit. & was excellent fun. Other mates had 2lt Escorts & RS2000's with $$$ spent on performance - they had no chance. When I was convienced to get more go, got head done, ported & polished, the lumpest Crain cam with matching lifters & double springs etc. Low down torque went up but top end power was shameful - all noise & little go. Long story short noone could recognise or identify the original cam fitted. It was Ford cast but numbers didn't match anything people had. Some suggested that my Escort may have been a prototype 2.0 lt & was specially developed by Ford for early testing or something. It's first registered owner was Ford, 2nd owner purchased after 6-8 mths, I purchased a couple of years latter as 3rd owner at 70,000km with no work done appart from services etc. Can anyone here suggest what might have been the specs of this original cam?

Most likely a wr40 cam, ford option ( hence the ford part no)for 1976 rs2000, burtons have a Kent cam with same specs it marries up with big valve head and twin IDFs

66GT> That sounds similar to (if not THE) the English RS spec cam which was the one used in the first factory rally cars in '75. It is what I used as a basis for mine as posted earlier.

I spoke to crow cams yesterday afternoon and they said they had absolutely no castings for 2 litre escorts! She said that they had ran out some time ago, and she put in an order over 12 months ago and still nothing. That's the end of that I suppose.

Thats a ****ser, they were a nice balanced cam. I've used Ivan Tighe Cams back in the early '90s, then moved over to the Crow grinds. Now moved on to Piper as first preference.

I think the Spec of my Cam is similar to a Kent FR32 which the poms seems to like.

I struggled to locate anything in Australia - was chasing a Crow cam and the best I could find was something that cut in at 6000rpm (ie: Race Cam).

Only other easy option is buying from the Burtons Catalogue

Maximum time it has taken anything I order out of the Burtons has been 4 weeks, most often I see stuff within 2-3 weeks. Plenty of time to order a Cam kit (Kent or otherwise) and have it in time for your January deadline?

Fr32 is fairly mild (stage 2) 2500 to 5500
Fr33 next up the chain 3000 to 6000
Wr40 next up the chain 3500 to 7000

As I said before Camteck in Sydney have these profiles , I run the fr32 equilvant and have dialled the cam in and is spot on to specs with slightly more lift, they quoted 289" at the cam I have 306" the more the better

someone has mentioned camtech cams , they are Australian. I rebuilt a pinto 15 years ago , cant remember what the cam was spec wise but it went well in the car. I had a ported flowed head but only the standard 32/36 weber, electronic dizzy etc. If I did one again thats where Id be buying from
