Default Batteries for our beasts (poll added)

Does anyone have a contact who can supply new batteries?

Obviously in Victoria.

Prefer reasonable quality, etc.

What sort of batteries?

There's a place in Dandy that has cheap Optima YTs (Gel Cells).

I can get the YT's for $150 from a neighbour. I haven't got around to getting one for my own car yet though.

Thanks but YT's suck. I threw mine out.

I'd rather a good one if I pay $150.

Don't have a contact but I see a huge number of e-series with Century Batteries - 2 year warranty - UGLY yellow looking things though

My charger has this battery in it and even though it sits around months on end the battery still keeps it charge - has the eye indicator.... its over 3 years old now and still goes strong.........

The 11.90 Volts is as is after its been sitting for ages

There's a sponsor on Car Audio Australia forums that have cheap(er) Optima batteries. Bare in mind they still cost about $300-350. Good investment though.

$300 for a battery...I dont care how good it is aslong as it gives charge then whats the difference? Perhaps if you had a huge system then thats different I guess, your already crazy.

OT: how much are those read out things on the terminals? Pretty snazzy looking.

Supercharge Gold. Best battery I've had by far, around $130, 600CCA
3 year warrenty and they are black, unlike those hideous Century batteries.

The $300 pays for a battery which will not leak acid as it is sealed, you can even have it fitted on its side, in the boot of the car etc also output will stay high for a much longer period of time rather than in small burst like a std battery and charging is easier if the battery goes dead flat.....

Cant remeber but about $120 from Pyroay for + & - but they are Stinger ones so you can get cheaper ones from Jaycar

if you got a system use a 600 cold cranking amps (CCA) battery.
if you dont have a system any old battery will do.
as for brands you will find the same quality lead in all major branded batteries so just pick something with a good warranty instead of going for a particular brand.
i use 2 x Excide 600CCA (660CCA) batteries and they live after many times of running the system without car started.

ohh one other thing....most named brands are zero maintainance.

Not that the colour matters as EL's (any maybe other e series) have battery covers.

Where did you get yours from? Would bursons stock them?

Get a marine battery.
I have a good 1 in my car its only a 580cca but it has a nice reserve in power as well ...
Can have the stereo on for a few hrs and it will still crank up..... that's the best bit about a marine battery ... AND they dont acid up like some do

Thats a ******* wicked price.

YTs suck? Please explain! Theyre one of the best deep cycle batteries on the market, STILL. I've been running one for over 3 years, and i flatten to <10v it regularly. Just ask the boys at shep ;)

I LOVE my Exide Orbitals, they seem to be a hell of a lot better than the Optima YTs, as I'm still on my first one and Steve has been through 3 YTs... I've got 1 marine Orbital as the starting battery and 2 of the deep cycle versions to run my fridge, which I have run flat more times than I can count, and they're still going strong. Although I've just killed the starter battery, it was sitting in the LTD still connected for like 4 months without starting it, and it dropped to like 4V and stayed there for god knows how long, now its not holding charge. But that's my fault.

Alex

Alex, just interested, but are you basing your opinion that the Optimas aren't very good because Steve has had three die on him? There are loads of people who rely on Optimas on Car Audio Australia. I haven't heard a negative report until now...
