Default Chronic Cough !!!!!!

OVER THE LAST 12 MONTHS I HAVE DEVELOPED A COUGH WHICH COMES AND GOES. it is becoming more so than less .
decmber 2006 had a cough that lasted 3 months . had blood tests and all was ok , this was put down to summer post viral cough , by a doctor.
september 2007 had bad flue which side lined me for 1 week . had to stop training ( exercising for 2 months as i had no energy. )
december 2007 coughing started again
january, after 6 weeks i go and get a chest x'ray , which shows all clear, then cough gets better ( stops) 2 weeks later cough starts again , now 3 weeks and cough is more consistant .
i have never had astham or bronchitis or respitory illness in my life .
anyone else suffer from this .
it's like a dry smokers cough , except , i dont smoke.
coug lollies work . they mask the problem . ventilin sometimes stops the coughing and sometimes makes it worse.
sometimes i just have a coughing fit .
all i have to do is raise my chin up and i will cough .
if i laugh it turns into a cough . i have no idea what this could be ??
blood test clear 12 months ago, and recent chest xray x
clear .
it's more frustrating than sick, a cold drink can cause a coughing fit. and a 1/2hr hard workout on a rowing or running machine doesnt make me cough or be short of breath.

anyone else suufer these symptoms ?
i'll have to go back to a doctor and look further into it .

my GUESS IS after doing youtube searches , the yanks have come up with a new previously undiagnosed form of ASTHMA . I THINK THEY REFER TO IT AS COUGH INTRUSIVE ASTHMA , WITH NO OTHER SYMPTOMS ???

or you could simply be allergic to something your eating. I'm no expert, but maybe you need to see if something your eating is causing it. What about trying a blood type diet? Different blood types are allergic to different foods.

Id say go to the doctor and say you want to see a respritory (sp?) specialist. Unless we have some medically trained ford fans on here, anything you read is just heresay.

Have you ever tried an Asthma puffer when you have the cough? If you have access to one, and you get the cough, take it and see if it goes away. I have a cough that annoys the crap out of me, and taking a puffer makes it go away. The doctor told me if the puffer does work, than I have a mild case of Asthma. I don't always get the cough, but when I do it's annoying. But I don't wheeze like an asthma sufferer.

That's true too. But what good has the doctor done for him so far? Some are as useless as poo on a stick.

it could be lung cancer caused by snorting asbestos dust through a straw in the 80's.

Or, when you were six, you inhaled a piece of lego, which has jammed in your upper lung, and has now become infected, causing poor airflow, and rectal spasms.

Or, you may have the slowest acting form of Pulmonary Anthrax ever recorded.

So far this doesnt look good for you. Please send me $55 and your medicare card.

well if that doesn't work, it's not asthma. I would go and seek advice from a specialist. An allergy to something is still possible. Just try your best to find a doctor who knows what they're on about.

wether it's an allargy or a serious illness ' i'd like to know either way. perhaps a respiratory specialist might be the only way to go.
so far some things have been ruled out with the xray and the blood test. but not the symptoms .

The possibility exists are you have Bronchiolitis - to put it blunly your nose is dripping down your throat which then flows into the lungs. After a while the lungs become hypersentive to this and you develop the annoying cough. This can be brought on by hayfever.

BTW for the dipsticks - Ventolin is a Salbutamol sulphate that means its not an amphetimine nor is it a steroid.

try this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bronchiolitis

Disclaimer - I am not a doctor - if you have a problem seek a doctors advice not mine.

Go see an ENT doctor. And asking for advice on medical issues on here is just a wee bit worrying.

I'm 100% sure that a half-decent doctor will have a much better idea of what's wrong than a bunch of car enthusiasts who aren't doctors. That's why they go to med school after all.

If your doctor isn't doing enough or is trying to pretend he doesnt know, go to a different doctor and if he doesn't know go to a specialist. Eventually you will find someone who knows what's going on.
