Default Brake UPGRADES!

Hi Everyone,

Long time reader first time poster...

I've gotta Mk1 Escort with Mk2 struts and odds and ends..

What do people do for upgrading the brakes? I've heard bits and peices about Volvo 4 pot calipers and BMW discs...

I've also heard of a guy with a SR20 Mk2 running RX7 calipers and discs..

Is there anyone who has done it or know what they are talking about?

Cheers
Aaron

Well probably the cheapest way around a brake upgrade is to get a kit from CRS that allows you to bolt Falcon brakes up.

There are two kits, one uses P76 hubs/rotors & HQ-WB Holden calipers. The other uses rotors & calipers from any XW-XG Falcon.

I have the Falcon kit on my Capri & its a bit of buggerising around to fit because you have to grind some of the calipers mount to fit it & you have to get the hub machined so that the inner & outer bearings are closer together to fit on the shorter stubb axle.

Then your stuck with using 5 stud Falcon wheels.

Another way around it if you can find them is that I found that Centura brakes are nearly a bolt up fit onto the Escort/Capri strut. Early 4 cylinder Centuras (KB's) had exactly the same stud pattern as the Escort Capri Cortina so if you could find a pair of those you would be away.

For bigger budgets: PBR big brake kit... Hoppers Stoppers brake kit... AP racing brake kit...

depends how much $$ you have to spend

I have a pretty small budget... I guess I better start saving!

Any ball park figures for Hoppers, AP or PBR. Also do they have ones to suit?

Thanks again

Also this is from an old for sale ad for mk1 parts which would show that it is possible to fit beemer and volvo parts but he had capri struts also:

- I set of V6 Capri front struts with 60mm coilover kit and 250lb King Springs. Struts are used but Springs are new
- BMW and Volvo brake upgrade. New DBA slotted BMW E60 (?) Touring disc's with Volvo twin pot calipers (rebuilt). Proffessionally built and ready to bolt on. Have been test fitted
- Noltec camber\castor tops for Mk1 Escort.
- K-Mac 24mm front sway bar, 18mm rear sway bar.
- Mk1 Escort anti-dive kit. Comes with buhes for 24mm front bar.

BMW E28 and S4/5 RX7 calipers can be used with some very basic mods and a very simple adaptor plate. Nice light 4-spots. No master cylinder change required.

hopper kits depends a lot on size of rotor used etc
but from $800 up to 1500 but they are great kits

we have used volvo calipers etc on MK1 cortinas as they are a cheaper option
