Lightbulb Mondeo diesel

I'm looking at buy a 2nd hand mondeo diesel wagon. I do about 40,000kms a year so I'm looking for fuel economy. The mi deo ticks that box but I'm worried about the transmission issues. How prevalent is it? As it's the only thing holding me back from pulling the trigger.

it doesn't seem to be that bad, the earlier ones (up to 2012) possibly had a trtans. input speed sensor that may have gone faulty. As it's deep into the trans. it costs a bit to replace, and the sensor was something like $240 so a bill of $2-2.5K was a shock, at least to me. I don't have a DCT, but I don't have a problem about transmission now, if I were looking at buying one.

Other times it got a bad rap, the trans would do strange stuff and the townfolk were out with their pitchforks, but recently it's come to light that one fella here on FFAU, had actual decent dealership support/tech, and it was diagnosed as an EGR faulting. The trans didn't know how to interpret the input and gave issue, but it was the EGR valve causing the problem. Replacing the EGR and it's not been a problem again.

I wonder how many others had this problem, but fingered the trans. and tarnished the namesake.

170,000 on mine, with no issues.
In fact, I’d say it’s getting better.
Fuel economy 5.1 Orange NSW to St Leonard’s, Sydney last week.
And that’s in the wagon, which uses about 0.5L/100kmmore than the hatch.

The wagon is what I'm after. What year is yours?

I usually get 5.5 - 6 l/100 km on trips out of town. Mine is a 2010 MB wagon with the auto. A MC with the DCT trans would do better.

All of the Mk 4 diesels have a DPF.

Yeah all Mk4 diesels that entered AU were Euro4 + DPF,
Particulate Matter: 0.025g/km
NOx: 0.25g/km

Euro5, all emission levels lowered, but now the dpf has to collect 99% soot. Essentially 1 grain of sand per km driven.

Particulate Matter: 0.005g/km
NOx: 0.18g/km

Euro6, Bigggest focus on Nox as it's more dangerous to your health, so large reduction target.

NOx: 0.08g/km
Particulate Matter: 0.005g/km

of course there is much more to emissions but that's what I took from it.
