Default Modified PCV Hose

Hi guys

Anyone come across a modified PCV hose.
Seen one on the net the other day but can't find it now.
Has thicker walls for longer life.

Anyone done the R&R on the PCV hose by just removing starter motor?
know its a squeeze.

I always thought you had to remove the intake manifold? If you find info on how to change the PCV by just removing the starter motor...please post it here!

I take it your PCV hose is split? What were the symptoms?

yeah split. can see it.
The usual over reving on decel(i.e coming to a stop) and jumpy idle.
It is a manual.
Hose is basically above back end of starter.
I have some angled pointy nose pliers so might be able to get hose off PCV valve.
Getting back on could be fun!!

A bloke over on Focus Fanatics said he did it without taking manifold off.
Used pointy nose pliers through gap in inlet manifold to get to top hose connection.
Said it took 3 hours! I think a lot of bad words used!!!
I would have been using more than that!

Not sure what I would prefer .... 3 hours of dicking around with pointy nose pliers, or 5-6 hours to get the intake manifold off, replace PCV valve & hose, and reassemble

If you took the latter option, at least you could give the IM a good clean and also make sure the PCV hose is 100% securely in place.

I would just use the Subaru inlet aerosol cleaner do the cleaning.
That stuff is great. It foams to fill manifold, leave it for a while then start it up.
expensive but works a treat.
Saves on breaking things on the R&R.

What I have found on forums about OS dealers, they do it without removing manifold.
certainly save on gaskets etc.
some of the US dealers have quoted guys around the $70-90 mark(US dollars)
that does not seem like a lot of chargeable time in that

I guess you find short cuts after a while, I know I used to do a 5 hour job in 3, boss would still charge 5!

I do have a few different shaped pointy nose pliers

if it ain't broke don't fix it.

still have not found modified hose..

Yeah I've heard about that upper engine cleaner, just never used it. I saw Motorcraft have a similar product, saw it at local Ford Spares dealer.

$70-$90 US ain't much at all, so you're right....the dealers there probably know the shortcut that you're looking for. Let us know how you go!

Checked my Haynes manual last night, they recommend the full IM removal job.

Well replaced the PCV hose without removing manifold.
Removed starter.
Took about 1.5 hours.
Most of that time replacing.
Used a genuine part.
Highway robbery., $98 for the hose and thats trade!!!!!
BTW the hose on ours did not have clamps, so went back on without. Its a low pressure system.
